Re: 9/20/12 - Reds @ Cubs

BTW, I guess we ought to give some PBP & recap the top of the 1st, which just ended.

Paul grounded out to the pitcher
Cairo singled "on a soft line drive to shortstop" - so says my MLB app.
Rodriquez walked
Frazier flew out to center and then Heisey flew out to right.

Phipps with a tremendous running and diving catch on a ball hit by DeJesus.

OK, it was a routine fly ball and an easy play. Just trying to give the young guy some props.

One out.

Not many in the bleachers today. Looks cold and cloudy.

1,2,3 first for Cueto. The best thing I would like to see out of this game is for Ceuto to pitch really well and be back on track. The Cubs may just be the tonic for him.

I was really surprised to hear that Clint Hurdle gave his gold glove vote to Darwin Barney over BP. Just shocked

Hanigan on base thanks to the stupidest rule currently in baseball--catcher not catching 3rd strike.

What are folks quick and dirty thoughts on Gregorius? I just can't see him having enough stick to take him seriously. I know he is a D wizard, but you gotta have some stick to make that worthwhile in the NL game.

Why do you consider that a stupid rule? You need to catch a ball to record the put out, or tag the fielder. The catcher didn't and he didn't get the ball to the 1st baseman to finalize the out.

Basically agreed. I don't think he's good enough to be a starter for us, but he'd be a solid backup for the infield. Or he can be a trade piece to a team that may believe he can hit well enough in the bottom of the order. We've heard Arizona has interest, and he can't be any less productive than John McDonald.

Well, perhaps in today's game thread, although I think Chip might actually be older than me. I know WVRedsFan, by his own admission in the Baker pneumonia thread, is older than me, but I don't see him this afternoon.
