That was a quick way to get rid of Kontos.

Kontos came in. Paul is the pinch hitter.

And Kontos was removed for a lefty

Maybe Dusty wanted to avoid the double play and played the odds that Hanigan would make contact.

Not a terrible play, just didn't work.
If this was the thought process, Hanigan should've bunted. Then you may have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. A much better probable outcome. And if he can't get the bunt down, you have 1 out and runners at 1st and 2nd still.
