Yeah but Arredondo never K'd almost 12 per 9 at any point either though.

Ken Rosenthal
Source: Marmol would have OK'ed trade to #Angels, but #Cubs pulled deal off table and trade is not happening. Angels talking to other clubs.

Why?

If the Angels were willing to take Marmol, they'd gladly settle for Ondrusek or Arredondo. Maybe even Bray.

Reds can't afford Haren anyway.

Not a chance. Marmol has history none of those pitchers do.

Re: Cubs DO NOT trade Marmol for Dan Haren

9:27pm: Marmol would have approved a trade to the Angels, but the Cubs pulled the deal off of the table, a source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The Angels are still talking with other clubs about Haren as they close in on the 11pm CST deadline to exercise his $15.5MM option.

9:20pm: The trade will not take place, a Cubs source tells Carrie Muskat of MLB.com (via Twitter).

And now he is a FA

The Angels have declined their option on Dan Haren's contract for 2013, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com (via Twitter). The hurler will now enter the open market with a $3.5MM buyout rather than a $15.5MM salary with the Angels next season. Earlier this evening it seemed as though the... #mlb

That is correct. He has a history of walking over 6 batters every 9 innings.

Can't believe there isn't a team willing to roll the dice on a 1 year 12M deal on Haren. He wasn't THAT bad this year. He's not an ace, but he's not much different than James Shields in my mind.

And striking out 12 per 9. And posting a sub 3 ERA over a full season three times, one of those being sub 1.50. And being a valuable closer.

The only thing I can think of is something in his medical records, why else wouldn't they have been able to trade him? Why else would the Cubs have backed out?
