Reds:
Osvaldo Fernandez (43) -Spent time in the Reds rotation in 2000 (successfully) and 2001 (not so much). Chris Bushing (44) -Worked 4.1 innings for the 1993 Reds. Joe Beggs -Reliever for the 1940 world champs. Others: Carlos Baerga (43) -One of those guys whose career went into a nosedive at age 27, just when most careers start to go up. In 1993 he became the first switch-hitter to homer from both sides of the plate in the same inning. Mark Bellhorn has since matched this feat. Tito Francona (78) -Terry's dad, and a fine OF in the '50s and '60s. In 1959 he batted .363, but fell 28 ABs short of qualifying for the batting title (Harvey Kuenn won it at .353). P.S.- Tito's middle name was "Patsy". Dick Groat (81) -Two-time All-American basketball player at Duke, signed by the Pirates and sent to the majors without playing a day of minor league ball. NL MVP in the Pirates 1960 championship season. Currently does color commentary for U. of Pittsburgh basketball games. Tommy Leach -"Wee Tommy" was a jack-of-all-trades around the turn of the century. He's interviewed in The Glory of Their Times, and his chapter is one of my favorites. Bobby Wallace -Shortstop in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Selected to the HOF in 1953. Managed the Reds briefly in 1937.
