Blue Jays sign Melky Cabrera

Two years, $16 million.

I posted this in the news thread, but I thought there could be some interesting discussion. (Link is in Spanish)

Frankly, I'm surprised he got that contract coming off of the suspension.

With those miracle working hitting coaches that they have, Cabrera might increase his production after getting off the juice.

Re: Blue Jays sign Melky Cabrera

Is there a Red's opportunity in the Jays OF. The now have Bautista, Rasmus, Bonifacio and Cabrera.

I'd love Bonifacio. But if I were the Jays, Rasmus would be the guy I'd look to move. Any interest? Classic WJ pickup?

Re: Blue Jays sign Melky Cabrera

C - J.P. Arencibia/Travis d'Arnaud
1B - Adam Lind?
2B - ???
SS - Jose Reyes
3B - Bret Lawrie
LF - Melky Cabrera
CF - Colby Rasmus/Emilio Bonafacio
RF - Jose Bautista
DH - Edwin Encarnacion

Upgrade 1B and add even a halfway decent 2B and that's a potent lineup.

Mark Buehrle
Josh Johnson
Brandon Morrow
Ricky Romero (assuming last year wasn't a sign of things to come)
Kyle Drabek/Drew Hutchison

Pretty good.

Nice signing.

Re: Blue Jays sign Melky Cabrera

Considering Blue Jay hitters seem to find power that didn't exist before, I fully expect Melky to continue putting up all-star stats.

I think Bonifacio can play 2b.

A good time to trade for Bautista to bat cleanup and play LF for us.

Are the Reds sending them Votto in return? There is no way the Reds can sign Votto long term and he is Canadian or from Dayton- one of those places.

Otherwise it is interesting to see what effect this and Hunter may have on Ludwick.

Re: Blue Jays sign Melky Cabrera

A team of juicers signs a known juicer. Fitting place for Cabrera.
