Fujikawa

If the Reds are moving Chapman to the rotation and IF the Reds have already talked with Broxton and Madson about coming back to be the Reds closer, should they also be one of the teams in the discussion to land FREE AGENT IMPORT Kyuji Fujikawa???

Re: Fujikawa

I've seen him pitch and would love to have him. He sits in the low to mid 90s but that velocity is deceptive because his fastball absolutely explodes as it reaches the hitter.

Re: Fujikawa

That would be a very Under the radar Walt-like move.
Would improve the team and wouldn't cost anything more than money.

Re: Fujikawa

Wouldn't it cost a lot of money (for the rights fee to be eligible to negotiate)?

No there is no posting fee for him as he is a true free agent.

Japanese closer Kyuji Fujikawa visited with five MLB teams this past weekend, and he appears to be moving quickly through the free agent process. Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker (Twitter link) translates a Nikkan Sports piece that reports Fujikawa has offers from 10 Major League clubs and has narrowed his decision process to five teams.

Fujikawa has reportedly met with the Dodgers, Angels, Orioles, Cubs and Diamondbacks. The Rangers are also said to have interest in the 32-year-old, who has been Japan's best closer for the past several years. He is reportedly looking for a multiyear deal on his first foray into Major League Baseball. Because he is a free agent, interested teams are not required to go through the posting process with Fujikawa.

Fujikawa has only posted an ERA higher than 1.63 once since 2007. Over the past six seasons with the Hanshin Tigers, he has 202 saves to go along with an eye-popping 1.36 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 12.4 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 369 2/3 innings. In that time, he's allowed just 18 home runs.

Right which is why really do think he would be an outstanding option...if I had my druthers I wuld like to see the Reds resign Madson let Broxton go and sign Fujikawa.

the BP would be as nasty as last year and maybe even more so.

If the Reds could put a five year deal together with him for something similar to what they signed Chapman to that just may be the winning ticket.

Re: Fujikawa

I'd like to see more about his skill set. Given the prevalence of slap-hitting and no-hit defenders, I like to reserve judgment. Just remember, those numbers were put up in a league where Tsuyoshi Nishioka was a 5 time all-star.

That's a GREAT POINT and that is a real reservation I have too...but I also am not sold on Broxton being "back"...I know he had a good season but for whatever reason I just don't trust him to repeat what he did this season.

I hope I am wrong because I don't like to see anyone fail (unless they are playing against the Reds, bidding a job against me or are part of any team from the U of M.) but it is just my hunch.
