Meh. I hear he may be a "lutz" defensively in the outfield.
![]() Just kidding. Yeah, I forgot about him. A guy to keep your eye on.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
I'd add 2 more pieces, the LHRP of course that has already been discussed. But I like a true defensive SS with some potential for contributing offensively as a backup. I think Donald and Burris both are fair midseason options to bring up in a pinch. However not good enough to backup IMO. Jason Bartlett is a guy who might discover he's a better fit in GABP than anywhere else he has previously played. Perhaps also it might be wise to pick up a LH bat at catcher to stash at AAA (Brian Schneider??) as well for depth purposes.
CF - Choo - LHH 2B - BP - RHH 1B - Votto - LHH LF - Ludwick - RHH RF - Bruce - LHH 3B - Frazier - RHH SS - Cozart - RHH C - Hanigan - RHH C - Mes - RHH OF - Heisey - RHH OF - Paul - LHH IF - Hannahan - LHH UT - Donald - RHH Cueto - RHP Latos - RHP Arroyo - RHP Bailey - RHP Chapman - LHP Leake - LR - RHP Simon - MRP - RHP Ondrusek - MRP - RHP Arredondo - MRP - RHP Marshall - SU - LHP Masset - SU - RHP Broxton - CL - RHP Trade Proposal: Lutz, Fleury & Logan Ondrusek to Oakland for C - George Kottaras & LHRP Jerry Blevins

I think Lecure and Hoover need to be in the bullpen.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
can't Chapman be the 2nd lefty in the pen until June (when he joins the rotation) then use Cingrani as the 2nd lefty?

Pirates wanting to deal Joel Hanrahan. Only in my dreams. But Reds can't afford it and I doubt they'd trade within the division. And wanting to trade him in the first place just goes to show that Pirates management isn't in it to win it anyway.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
Disagree.
Hanrahan, like most closers, has a finite shelf life. The Pirates are doing the smart thing here, in attempting to get value from a guy who might soon be no more than CoCo Cordero. Personally, while I wouldn't mind having him, the price is far too much to pay.

The article states he's arbitration eligible and that's why Pirates are wanting to unload him, and I'm sure they want to bolster their farm system. And maybe, they've seen the moves the Reds made and are throwing in the towel a little??? Just maybe? So I agree about it being too much money and they'll want a boatload of prospects surely. But I disagree about Hanrahan's value. He just turned 31 in October. Hardly an old Cordero, which you compared. His H/9 were the lowest of his career. His K/9 is still pretty consistent. 36 saves last year. 40 the year before. His BB/9 were definitely up. But they've gone up and down throughout his career. When you throw that hard, you're going to have some inconsistency. In summation, I think he's far from finished. But back to agreeing with you. If the Pirates think they won't compete, no better time than now to get a haul from him. Or they could wait during the season when a contender's closer (like Madson did) goes down with injury. Basically, he's too expensive for the Reds and would simply be a luxury in the bullpen. And the Pirates aren't going to trade him to the Reds unless they offered something ridiculous like Hamilton. But Hanrahan is far from being finished, barring a sudden injury.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
The Reds need another lefty in the pen. Bray is gone and all they have is Marshall who is more of a one or two inning guy. I think they could use a situational lefty who can come in and force a managers hand.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
I'm not advocating trading for Hanrahan. And with Hanigan and Hannahan already Reds, adding Hanrahan would drive the announcers to drink.
But Hanrahan as a Red could be a difference maker who might seriously help the ballclub. Imagine Chapman in the rotation, and Hoover, Broxton, Hanrahan and Marshall available for the late innings. I'm' not advocating a trade, and the Bucs wouldn't likely trade him to the Reds, and he would cost too many prospects probably. But another serious reliever would help this ballclub reach the top, or pretty close to the top. Hanrahan is such a guy, I'd love to see it, but it pretty clearly won't happen. |

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
Isn't that what Arredondo is for? Sure, he isn't a lefty, but he dominates them.

In comes Hand to relieve Hanson, with Hanrahan now warming in the bullpen. And here's the pitch from Hand to Hanigan. It's a bunt to Hannahan at third.........the throw to the plate to Hanigan. It gets away. Hand backing up the play.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
Hanrahan is crashing. Check out his stats from last year -- his K/BB ratio has about halved, walk rate is way up and ERA+ is way down. It's hard to believe this is true for a Pirate, but he got incredibly lucky last year.

Re: Are the Reds done dealing?
On the remaining free agents thread, some people mentioned Gorzelanny as a target for the lefthanded reliever specialist.
Brewers are about to sign him. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/1...orzelanny.html
