Blizzard warning

When I looked outside this morning around 5:30 it was just light snow/sleet. By the time I was ready to leave around 6:45 it was nearly a blizzard. Decided to try to wait it out but ended up not going into work. Not a total loss because I can control my work computer remotely but it is very slow.

Total snow amount received was about 5"-wet and heavy. So far only the main drag in the subdivision has been plowed, so getting out of my cul-de-sac should be interesting tomorrow.

Looks like we got between 8 and 10 inches here in the Richmond area. Had to go in at 3. Got sent home at 5 when Wayne County declared a level 3 emergency. I've seen worse but the roads are pretty nasty here.

Drove home from Chicago today. Took a bit longer, and there were some icy spots, but not too bad overall.

And here in Terre Haute we got maybe 3 or 4 inches as compared to 10 less than 50 miles away. I'd say we were lucky, but then again, we are in Terre Haute....

It started coming down here around 8 Am yesterday and never let up. And what was even worse is that we stood around at work doing nothing because outside contractors were in our way. Pointless. They finally came around about 10 AM and said they were shutting the plant down at noon, but we could leave at 10:30 (half day). By that time though it's really bad outside. Myself, and a couple other cars, got behind two semis as shields creeping at 20 mph up US 33. I knew I wasn't going to be able to take my normal exit because of it had a corkscrew hill and there was no way anyone could get up it. So I went to the next exit which goes into Bellefontaine, went through town, and though I'd come in from the other direction. Everything was going pretty well, was about 5 miles from home, but I then got stuck in the middle of the road on a Co. Rd. 10 hill I couldn't get up. The road had yet to be plowed. So I sat there for about 15 minutes, cursing Honda for even having us work today. Finally two guys in a 4 wheel drive pulled up, jumped out with two coal shovels and helped me get free. As they were working a county plow truck came by. I stopped and asked him what direction he was going. He was hitting this road and was then going to turn and do the road that goes to my house. So I thanked those two guys profoundly, even offered them some money which they refused, and was able to get back into town, get turned around, and try it again. I also called the wife to tell her my situation. She was worried because even if I could get closer to the house the short road to our home wasn't plowed. I told her that if I can get that close (about 600 yards) I'd park the car close to the side of the road, lock it, and walk the rest of the way. I had my foul weather clothing.

But I was able to make it all the way, turned into the driveway and got it stuck because it was badly blown over. At that point I could care less.... I'M HOME! The kids and I then started up the snow blower, cleared the driveway, and we got the car in the garage.

So my journey started at 10:30 AM, and what is normally a 15 minute drive, was almost 2 hours.

I get to do it all over again today because work is on. The snow has since stopped though, and I'm assuming they've got the roads all plowed. If not, then I'll turn around and come home and - SCREW HONDA!

So how much snow were you fighting GAC? How many inches? Was it all snow or was there ice/sleet? Down here there was quite a mix. In Cincinnati there was about an inch of snow but overall an inch of "precipitation" which means about 9" of snow that came down as sleet and feezing rain, whereas SE IN got 10" of snow

At my house we ended up with what looked like about 3 inches of just plain snow. When I used the snowblower there really wasn't anything else underneath it.

16 inches of snow, winter pornography for some. Took me over an hour to shovel out my driveway, and I will have to go home tonight and clear a path for the pup.

I live about 20 miles west of GAC, we got a solid 5-6".

I'd say that's right. Some areas (counties around us) got close to 10". It was just a wet, slushy, snow coming down that you just couldn't get any traction in. And the biggest problem was the blowing/drifting on those rural county roads. It wasn't fun.

I've been to Terre Haute. We stopped into a warehouse store and at checkout, I asked the cashier:

"We're from out of town. How do you pronounce the name of this place?"

She said slowly..
"WAALL-MAART".

My friend from California was in a Waffle House somewhere in the south and ordered an egg and cheese sandwich, he asked the waitress what sort of cheese they had.

She took her fingers and made a pattern, and said "SQUAAARE"

Sounds par for the course...... Been to Terre Haute many times. Hoping to never go back now that my friend is out of there (went to Rose Hulman IT for a few years).
