50 best players of all-time NOT in the HOF

http://baseballpastandpresent.com/20...e-version-3-0/

Dave Concepcion slipped outside the top 50 this year with the inclusion of
Bonds, Clemens and several other cheating-dog 'roiders.

An interesting, nostalgic read.

How in the world do they rank Tim Raines ahead of Pete Rose? I understand them dropping the 'roid guys down the list a bit, but how is Rose behind Raines?

Re: 50 best players of all-time NOT in the HOF

Roids or no, Bonds is one of the top 3 players to EVER play, and the Rocket is probably a top 5 pitcher. Not sure how they are 6/8.

But yea, Rose is probably like, 3rd on this list IMO.

One other name that stuck out to me was Tiant. He's the one that people have compared Cueto to right? Didn't he also have that twisty delivery?

I agree with this. How credible is this website?

I was looking at this the other day, how Red's fans say Trammell or Jack Morris deserve it but overlook Parker who played here. Baseball References HOF stats:

Dave Parker
Black Ink Batting - 26 (72), Average HOFer ≈ 27
Gray Ink Batting - 145 (99), Average HOFer ≈ 144
Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 124 (110), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 42 (146), Average HOFer ≈ 50
JAWS Right Field (40th), 36.3 career WAR/35.9 7yr-peak WAR/36.1
Average HOF RF (out of 24) = 69.5 career WAR/41.3 7yr-peak WAR/55.4

Jack Morris
Black Ink Pitching - 20 (96), Average HOFer ≈ 40
Gray Ink Pitching - 197 (44), Average HOFer ≈ 185
Hall of Fame Monitor Pitching - 122 (67), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards Pitching - 39 (77), Average HOFer ≈ 50
JAWS SP (167th), 39.3 career WAR/30.8 7yr-peak WAR/35.1
Average HOF P (out of 58) = 67.9 career WAR/47.7 7yr-peak WAR/57.8

Alan Trammell
Gray Ink Batting - 48 (522), Average HOFer ≈ 144
Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 118 (121), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 40 (160), Average HOFer ≈ 50
JAWS Shortstop (11th), 67.1 career WAR/43.3 7yr-peak WAR/55.2
Average HOF SS (out of 21) = 63.1 career WAR/41.0 7yr-peak WAR/52.1

I've been saying for years that Parker should be in. He was the best and highest paid player in all baseball.

The guy had a hose for an arm too. Will never forget him throwing the ball on a line to the plate without a bounce from right.

The hof rewards career longevity over greatness. Parker was a truly dominant player but he missed a couple seasons because of drugs or injury, so he gets left out. I think he should be in.

THIS...it's the hall of good for a long time.
Similarly, if you were ever an ICON, you should be in---Dale Murphy.

Re: 50 best players of all-time NOT in the HOF

Yeah Dale Murphy should be in. While he was playing everyone thought he was a hof'r but wasn't that productive as he got over 30. But he had a long enough run and was probably the most popular player in all baseball for a few years. I know saber-metrics don't really like his hitting stats , but he was also a great fielder.

Re: 50 best players of all-time NOT in the HOF

At the time he was playing he was thought of as a hof'r. It was often said that whole infield of bench, rose, Morgan, Perez and concepcion would be in the hof. But Pete screwed up and now concepcion's stats don't look that good. But he played at a time when offense was low, and shortstops didn't hit. I think he should be in if you compare him to a lot of the shortstops on the hof.
