It was an online relationship and he never met her?

Someone has to come clean about this. Whoever perpetrated it (Te'o or whoever) is pretty damn low.

He's gotta just come out with the whole truth now. It's not like he can make this more weird or awkward for himself. I mean, he's got the combine and team interviews coming up...plus media interviews. He's going to get asked about it a lot so there's no point in lying anymore.

He prolly should have stuck to the lie till he at least talked to a PR crisis guy or something. Releasing that weird statement didn't make much sense.

There was a maudlin segment about his girlfriend in the NC game pre-game. Almost certainly filmed after December 26, when Notre Dame alleges it became aware of the hoax. How could ND let that segment run?

I'm surprised it took so long for this story to break? No one on earth looked into the backstory?

Well done, Deadspin, though it probably wasn't hard to investigate (the she didn't exist part) once they went down that rabbit trail.
