DAYTON (6-7) - The Dayton game is up and running already. In the middle of the 4th, Dayton leads 3-2.

Jared Lyons was off his game in this contest. He lasted 3.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. He punched out a pair.
Easton Sikorski came on with the bases loaded and 2 away, and struck out the batter to wiggle out of further damage. This is Sikorski's debut here in '24.

Cam Collier unloaded his 6th home run on the year.

DAYTON RECAP - The Dragons give up 2 in the 9th and come up on the short end of a 7-5 affair.

Not much to talk about pitching-wise as every Dayton hurler gave up runs on the day. Lyons, Sikorski, Murphy, Bell. It did not matter.

Sal Stewart - SGL, 2 BB.
Cam Collier - DBL, HR (6), BB. OPS up to 1.061.
    Carlos Jorge - 2 DBL.

Phillips with a standard Phillips first inning. 26 pitches, HBP, BB and 2 K’s.

They should bring him up now and piggyback him with Hunter Greene. Between the two of them, they could get through the 6 inning.

LOUISVILLE RECAP - Bats bite the dust 4-1.

Connor Phillips needs to tighten up his control. in 3.2 innings he walked 5 and hit a batter. He only was charged with a lone run on 3 hits, and he fanned 5.
Casey Legumina allowed 3 runs in his stint on the mound.
Rehabbing Sam Moll worked a scoreless inning.
Justin Bruihl struck out 4 across 2 shutout frames. His ERA is down to 0.84.

Louisville could only muster 3 singles, 1 each by Capel, Wynns and Gonzalez.

CHATTANOOGA (3-9) - The Lookouts are just about ready to take on Biloxi.

Chase Petty is off to a rough start to the season. His ERA is an ugly 9.72. Petty has been struggling with the long ball, allowing 3 in his 1st 2 starts.

DAYTONA (7-6) - Daytona is the lone Reds affiliate with a winning record. However, they are trailing early, while giving up no hits yet. 2-0.

Ben Brutti had an eventful 1st. Walk, stolen base, hit by pitch, wild pitch, walk. This loads them up with nobody out. After a K and a fielder's choice makes it 1-0, a wild pitch brings the 2nd run home.

Meanwhile, back at the dish, the Tortugas have gone 9 up and 9 down. 6 on strikes.

DAYTONA - The Men of Shell have posted single runs in the 4th and the 6th to tie the game at apiece.

Ben Brutti hung a couple of zeros up on the board after a hectic first.
Dylan Simmons worked a scoreless 4th and 5th. His ERA remains spotless on the season.
Juan Martinez has kept Bradenton from crossing the plate in the 6th.

3 hits for Daytona so far.
Ricardo Cabrera (DBL), and Dominic Pitelli (SGL) have stayed hot with the stick.
Carlos Sanchez has singled as well.

NOTRE: The Tortugas are threatening now in the top of the 7th behind singles off the bats of Connor Burns and Esmith Pineda. 2 on with 1 out.

CHATTANOOGA - The Lookouts are down-zip in the 3rd.

    Chase Petty channeled his inner Connor Phillips today. 2.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. 76 pitches.
Andrew Moore has come on with 2 runners on, and allowed them both to score.

Jose Torres has singled twice, and that has been the sum total of Lookouts offense.

Phillips, Richardson, and Petty have all struggled greatly so far this season.

    None look remotely ready.

Small sample, of course, but if the Reds want guys who can step in for SP next year (Montas), so far this season, that looks like Aguiar or Lowder.

They were likely counting on one of those guys to make some starts this year as well. When one of the current Reds starters inevitably misses some time, they can go back to Martinez for a bit but no one in the minors has been knocking down the door yet to be next man up.

Coming into the year the SP in the system looked like the biggest strength. With the injuries to several of last year's draft picks, and poor starts to the year for key prospects it's looking a little dicey. Petty has never really been hit around like this even in AA last year. I know he was trying to get his velo up this off season, but I wonder if something has changed mechanically or with his approach that has him struggling. Overall not an impressive start for the pitching development. I always thought Richardson was a BP guy, but Phillips is the kind of arm that you just have to ride it out with until everything clicks.

Damn these guys wanting to get their velo up so they can strike out more guys while still getting hit and then injured. Just learn how to pitch. Anyways. Unless they are injured the minors is where you try new things and develop so if they are healthy then it’s on the coaching to figure it out and help.
