Minor League Game Thread 4/25/24 THURSDAY

DAYTONA - The game is scoreless in the 6th.

This Adam Serinowski kid is worth keeping an eye on. He made his 4th start on the season, and still has not given up a run. Serinowski is just 19, so it's not some veteran dominating young hitters. His line after 4 starts: 16 IP, 6, H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 19 K. Spending the summer in Daytona would be nice, but it looks as if Adam will be in the Buckeye state soon enough.
Gabriel Laureano has taken the baton is shutting down the opposition for 2 innings so far, to go along with an 0.87 ERA.

Singles by Ricardo Cabrera (.340) and Yerlin Confidan is all the Tortugas have mustered at this point in the contest.

DAYTON - Dayton has been up and down in this contest. The team took a 4-1 lead into the 6th, but trailed 7-4 when the inning was through.

Kevin Abel did his job, 5 innings of 1 run ball with 7 Ks.
    The bullpen was atrocious.

Cam Collier has doubled twice. 3 singles have been scattered among the rest.

CHATTANOOGA - The Lookouts trail 3-0 in the 3 as the offense is, obviously, in a state of suspension.

Julian Aguiar was not on his game. He needed 54 pitches to get through 1.2 innings, and allow all 3 runs.
Andrew Moore is now on the hill for 'Nooga.

The Lookouts are still looking for a baserunner.

Allan Cerda is back in action. This is his second game here in '24.

LOUISVILLE - The Bats are having their way with Nashville tonight. The lead 6-2 in the top of the 6th.

Carson Spiers is pitching some solid baseball. He is still in the game, having allowed 4 hits and 0 walks. He has struck out 4.

Someone woke up Blake Dunn. Dunn has reached all 3 times up. Single, homer (1) and walk.
Rece Hinds smoked a 3-run triple.
Erik Gonzalez has singled and doubled.

DAYTONA RECAP - Daytona finally pushes 2 runs across in the bottom of the 8th to win by a 2-0 margin.

The bullpen took the lead from Serinowski's fine start, and held St. Lucie off the board for the rest of the contest.
Gabriel Laureno with 2 scoreless frames, and Nestor Lorant added 3 more.
The respective ERAs of Serinowski, Laureano and Lorant are 0.00, 0.87,and 0.60. That will play.

After Yerlin Confidan collected his 2nd single, Ariel Almonte cracked his 5th home run of the season. That is all the offense that was needed.

NOTE: The St. Lucie starter, Jonah Tong, has some pretty stout stats of his own in 2024. 18.2 IP, 7 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 36 K.

It took Serinowski just 43 pitches (31 strikes) to complete his 4 innings of work.

DAYTON RECAP - Nothing positive happened for the Dragons the rest of the way as the fall 9-4.

Luis Mey allowed 2 runs in the 8th.
Dragons hitters were held in check the rest of the way as well.

LOUISVILLE RECAP - The Bats end up on the smiling side of the scoreboard, 9-5.

    Carson Spiers with a solid, lengthy start: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB 6 K.
    Yosver Zulueta with another dud.
Brooks Kriske came on to get the finaL 4 outs.

Blake Dunn reached base 4 times on 2 walks, a single and his 1st home run of the year.
Mike Ford singled, walked and stole a base.
    Mark Trautwein doubled and walked.
Erik Gonzalez singled twice and doubled.

If Dunn keeps it going, I wonder if that forces Capel to the REDS for a while when the REDS deem it necessary to replace Bubba Thompson?

If Dunn keeps going, just let him replace Thompson. The Reds need help against LHP. Dunn has killed lefty pitching in the minors, though that's a lot different than major league lefty pitching. Dunn is also a better defender and adds the same speed they are getting from Thompson.

Eventually, yes, but I'm thinking they want to wait until at least June with Dunn. I was thinking they might want to try Capel for 2-4 weeks.

I’m not sure it will work out that way because it sounds like Friedl is only a few weeks away.

Once Friedl returns, he’ll play against all pitching and Thompson probably departs.

Dunn started slowly then was out for awhile. So I’d guess Reds will give him some time now at AAA.

If Reds want to boost the offense they should simply swap out Martini and Ford. Ford has major league experience and can hit the long ball. As DH against RHP, he might get hot, which Martini certainly isn’t at this stage.

I'd bring up Dunn and cut Martini loose.

    Against LHP

    Friedl CF
    EDLC SS
    Steer DH
    Stephenson C
    CES 1B
    Candy 3B
    Fairchild RF
    Espinal 2b
    Dunn LF

    Vs RHP

    Friedl CF
    EDLC SS
    Benson LF
    CES 1B
    Fraley RF
    Steer DH
    Candy 3B
    Stephenson C
    Espinal 2B

India doesn't hit lefty pitching. Fraley and Benson sit along with Maile against LHP. Dunn and Fairchild sit against RHP. India can spell everybody but the Catchers by moving Espinal and Steer around.
