Minor League Game Thread 5/5/24 SUNDAY

DAYTONA RECAP - The Tortugas received another masterful pitching performance to shut down Palm Beach 5-0.

Brian Edgington was pitch efficient today, dispatching the enemy over 6 innings by using just 66 pitches. This dropped his ERA to 1.57. Edgington is 25, but hasn't been kicking around the minor leagues for years. Coming into 2024, Edgington had thrown just 8.0 minor-league innings.
Anyer Laureano kept the scoreboard clean for 2 more frames. His ERA is a miniscule 0.63.
    Alexander Johnson worked a 1-2-3 9th.

The hitters were also efficient today, scoring 5 runs on 5 hits.

    Yerlin Confidan doubled and walked.
Alfredo Duno walked twice, stole a base (2), while scoring 3 runs.
    Ariel Almonte singled and walked.
Andruw Salcedo, fresh off the Development List, singled twice in his 2024 debut.

DAYTON RECAP - The Dragons thought it was Sink-o de Mayo, and so they did. They wobbled and fell 8-6.

Javi Rivera only recorded 1 out and was charged with 5 runs.
    Pedro Alfonseca - 2.2 IP, 1 R, 4 K.
    Graham Osman - 2.0 IP, 1 R, 2 K.
Arij Fransen - 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 K. Fransen is from Deventer, Netherlands. It was founded in 768. A.D., but just 4 years later, the Saxons burnt the church to the ground. This infuriated some guy by the name of Charlemagne, and was the spark that set off the First Punitive War against the Saxons. Think about that for a second, Deventer was around for a mere 4 years, yet was the flashpoint for 18 campaigns against the Saxons. That's what I call making an historical entrance. Charlemagne was nothing if not persistent. But, I digress.
John Murphy hung a couple of zeros up on the scoreboard.
Brock Bell cleaned things up neatly in the 9th.

At the plate, things went much better. But, not good enough.
Jay Allen II singled twice, was hit by a pitch and stole a base (8).
    Hector Rodriguez singled twice.
Sal Stewart singled twice and walked.
Cam Collier singled, doubled and was hit by a pitch.
Ethan O'Donnell made his 1st start in a week a good one by singling and homering (1).
Carlos Jorge singled, doubled and stole a base (7).
    Logan Tanner walked twice.

LOUISVILLE - The game is in the top of the 5th, and the Bats are leading 7-4. Louisville is still in at the plate.

Lyon Richardson certainly knows how to fill up a stat sheet. 3 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR. 80 pitches. Anybody know how many Fantasy Points that is?
Casey Legumina isn't playing that game. He retired the side in the 4th on 9 pitches.

TJ Friedl has singled and walked.
Rece Hinds has matched that effort, singling and walking.
    PJ Higgins has singled twice.
    Edwin Rios has homered (4).
Peyton Burdick has homered (6) and been hit by a pitch.
Hernan Perez has singled and homered (3).

Every year I see something that I have never seen before. In the 8th, the St Paul batter erroneously believed he had drawn a walk when it was only ball 3. The Louisville catcher, perhaps confused, threw to first base but threw it into right field permitting the runner on first to move around to 3rd.
