Xavier dismissed Finn from basketball team

Hey X fans...

Xavier University Head Coach Sean Miller announced today that senior guard Dedrick Finn has been dismissed from the basketball team.

"Today it was brought to my attention that Dedrick Finn has violated one of our program's cornerstone policies," said Miller. "Throughout his career we have tried to connect with Dedrick to continue to develop him as a person and have pursued numerous channels to see this through. Dedrick has been made well aware of the importance of following rules and guidelines that all team members must abide by. The fact that he is at the end of his senior year makes his recent actions even more disturbing. Dedrick is on track to graduate in May and we will support his efforts in doing so wholeheartedy. Our current basketball team will move forward with the important and complete understanding that no one player is more important than our program."
Finn played in 122 career games, scoring 912 points and dishing off 481 assists. Finn made his 102nd career start last night at Dayton, including his 53rd consecutive start. He is averaging 5.0 points and 4.0 assists this season.

Kudos to XU and coach Miller for standing by their principles. They certainly didn't need to lose another starter but apparently, aren't the slightest bit afraid of doing what they consider the "right thing".

Coach Miller makes me proud to be a Xavier fan. Doing the right thing regardless of W/L consequences--and probable abuse from fans--takes great character. One positive in all this is that Johnny Wolf will see more playing time and help prepare X for the future. Let's face it, this season isn't going anywhere past a one and done in the NCAA or NIT anyway.

It would have been nice if the article included the violation... it just leaves you saying "huh?".

You know if it was a UC player, the violation would have been included.

Only because it would most likely have included jail time

As a UD fan, I was definately proud of the Flyers last night.

However, they didn't beat the best Xavier team.

Thorton's loss will affect X greatly, but I think they'll get a home NIT game and make some noise.

A well-earned double standard, I might add.

I know they said that it was alcohol related and they also said that he was of legal age.

edit: I dont know if its Xaviers policy or the coaches policy.

Matt, you don't even want to go there. Shall we talk about Dontonio, Long, Little, Patterson, Bright, Huggins, Land, Burton, Williams, Hicks, Legree, etc.?

The reason the CRIME wasn't listed is because HE WASN'T ARRESTED. When UC players get ARRESTED the police report is public information.
