Re: Rob Stratton released

Wow hate to see that Stratton was released. Hopefully we can resign him at a later date.

Re: Rob Stratton released

He was picked up by the Yankees, playing for Columbus.

The already struggling Louisville Bats offense absorbed another big loss this afternoon when the Cincinnati Reds released popular slugger Rob Stratton.

Stratton was hitting only .243, but he did lead the team in home runs (6) and RBIs (14).

“I know I haven’t been hitting great, but I was starting to feel like I was finding my swing,” Stratton said. “And now I get slapped with this.”

Stratton missed almost all of last year with an Achilles’ tendon problem, the same injury that shortened his 2004 campaign. He tantalized Bats fans with his power potential in the interim, hitting some of the longest home runs in Louisville Slugger Field history. He hit two homers on April 29, the second of which was estimated at a stadium record 490 feet.

But Stratton, who re-signed with the Reds before new general manager Wayne Krivsky took over, said the organization had no place for him.

“They told me I wasn’t going to play in the outfield (in the majors) or (at Triple-A), so why keep me around?” he said.

Bats manager Rick Sweet delivered Stratton the news in his office.
“He took it like the class man that he is,” Sweet said. “(Hitting coach) Smokey (Garrett) and I probably took it harder than him.

“He’s going to find another job, and I think he’s going to have a great rest of the year wherever he plays.”
