I can't see them expanding anytime soon, but I'd like to see MLB eventually add a couple of teams (32 teams) and have 8 4-team divisons (four in each league) with the divison winners making the playoffs, all within the same rule-structure (DH/No DH).

162 seems a bit long sometimes....but if our team was in it for all of those, it wouldn't.
They could probably shorten it a bit, either way.
Walt says we will find out one way or the other about signing Gomes by Sunday.
Ratings are not a god, the sooner baseball figures that out then the sooner they can retouch the youngsters.
The NFL plays 16 games because the sport as unnatural for your body as any sport could be, anymore games and guys would be breaking down after 2 seasons instead of 4.
Now that pitchers and catchers have reported, it seems like the Reds could move to place Volquez on the 60-day DL, freeing a spot on the 40-man roster for Gomes. Maybe Gomes wasn't just holding out for the dough, but also the ML guarantee.
Gomes isn't recieving many offers and wants to come back.. Arroyo already stated Jonny will be back so I think he signs the minor league deal and the Reds asure him a spot on the Opening Day roster.
The biggest reason the NFL has the ratings it does is simple; they market their players better, especially their top players. And sponsors follow that and market the top players better.
I can't think of two guys that are considered the best a their sport more than Peyton Manning and Albert Pujols. Any guesses on who is more recognizable?

Gomes update

Walt Jocketty expects to know one way or another on Jonny Gomes by Sunday.
“He wants to come back,” Jocketty said. “But he’s taking a last look at what’s out there.”
The Reds have a minor-league offer on the table for Gomes.
But Gomes’ options are limited. The rumor mill has gone quiet on him. The Reds could use a right-handed hitting outfielder. Gomes hit .307 with five home runs and 19 RBI in 101 at-bats against left-handers last year.

This will be a pretty successful off-season if this ends up happening. Very surprised that Gomes didn't get an offer from the rest of the league, but I guess they played the situation properly.
Even if Gomes regresses vs RHPs, having a bat like his on the bench vs LHPs is pretty valuable to have.
I would feel a lot better about LF and the bench if they get this done.
He'll be back.
That can only be good news, too.
Would be nice to get the good news on Sunday ... the offseason would feel complete. (And yeah, I know it's not the offseason any longer.)
