Max Surkont pitched a complete-game eight-hitter in a losing effort for the Pirates.

Joe Moeller, Ron Perranoski, and Jim Brewer combined on a four-hitter in a losing effort for the Dodgers. The only hits for the Reds were a leadoff homer by Gordy Coleman in the second inning, and back-to-back-to-back two-out singles by Leo Cardenas, Steve Boros, and pinch-hitter Marty Keough in the eighth.
