Re: Official RedsZone Movie Thread (pt. III)

Has anyone seen "The Place Beyond The Pines" yet? Going this weekend. I think it will be good but I have some doubt mostly because of the tag line. "If you ride like lightning, you'll crash like thunder" Am I being ridiculous or does that sound really corny?
"I know a lot about the law and various other lawyerings."

That's pretty corny but I don't think a movie's tagline has ever affected my opinion of the film.

Except Alien--that one makes it infinitely more perfect...

Saw 42 last night and enjoyed it. I have pretty thick skin when it comes to profanity, but racial slurs really get under my skin.

I thought it was really good. I won't give anything away but made kind of a ballsy move with it and I think it worked.

Also I watched "Safety Not Guaranteed" this weekend, and I really enjoyed that.

And "Wish You Were Here" it was good as well.

Yes, and most likely for the racial slurs, which really couldn't be left out all things considered.

I think that in a year or two, one of these guys - Frazier, Dorn, Valaika, Cumberland, Stubbs - will be ready to replace Dunn. They won't hit as many home runs as Dunn, but they should have similar OPS. - 757690, July 22, 2008

Alonso will be playing 1B for the REDS and batting 4th one year from today. - Kingspoint, July 9, 2009

My point was more that if it was to be an accurate depiction of the events that unfolded it would have necessitated an R rating...

Oh, so I saw it. My dude at FilmDrunk's review is pretty spot on:

    http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2013/03/...like-that-much

Basically, I was watching it and kept thinking about how well made of a film it was, but I wasn't necessarily enjoying it to an equal extent. I had a similar reaction to The Master...

Yeah, I guess I went in kind of expecting that after Blue Valentine. I think BV is a great movie but I could never watch it again, Pines was a least more enjoyable than that. Oh and from that link, yeah I like Ben Mendleson in everything he's in.

The best scenes were easily when they had Gosling riding his motorcycle. The cinematography was excellent, I sat there in awe.

I wonder if Mendleson could carry a leading role? Have you seen Animal Kingdom?

I haven't seen that, I've been told I should but I haven't gotten to it yet, you're reminder will move it to the top of the list of movies I need to watch. He was my favorite part of Killing Them Softly. I have no idea if he'll get a leading role but I certainly think he could. He seems so flexible his leading character could even be a guy we've never seen before.

You're probably on there, but I don't have a problem with toning it down just enough to make it marketable to a broader audience. The way it was done, I wouldn't have a problem with children viewing it. I saw a lot of families when I went and I was glad it was done in a way that entire families could go.
