I won a lot of bar bets with this question. A few beers addles ones concentration.
All my kids learned that state song. They'd perform it at school music functions (and wear like a vest brown grocery bags with the state flower, crest, motto, etc. on it).
My youngest can also do them in reverse-alphabetical order.

I think using the song is cheating. That proves you know the song, not the states.

The lyrics kind of remind me of Borat's version of the Khazak national anthem.
My freshman History teacher made us learn to draw a map of the U.S. During my senior year in high school, a bunch of us visited him, and he asked us to draw the map again to see what we remembered. My map included things like "East Virginia" and a large section of unexplored territory.

I left out West Virginia, a state I've been to at least a dozen times to visit family. How in the world did I leave off a border state? Man, I'm dumb.
