My guess, George Foster hit more home runs on July 14th, 1977 than Robinson will hit all year long.

And that was a day off for the Reds.

I think worrying about the DP is a tad over rated. I trust PB swinging the bat more than most on this team. If he hits into a double play, bummer, but we saw the other option 2 nights ago and it was pretty disheartening.

Boy, all it's going to take is one hot week from Billy Hamilton and we'll have 14 threads on this board berating the Reds for not bringing him up...

George leads the parade and has been around the past fees years. Isn't it time we retire his number?? 15 should not be worn again.

No. Hitting second is the worst spot for a DP man because Votto could lose the chance to knock in Choo.

Cleanup for Phillips is better, but not ideal. As you say. I think 5th or 6th are the ideal spots for Brandon.

But I could live with Phillips at 2 or 4 -- except for Dusty's post-game quote. See, if Dusty said "what the heck" and let Phillips swing away, that's ok. His quote showed a real concern about the DP which influenced his strategy. That's what I didn't like.

If the manager is so jittery about Phillips' DP propensities, and has to bunt with him, then he needs to hit in a different spot.

Or at the very least like Wayne Krenchicki.

Robinson has a reputation as a defender, but I'm not confident he'll hit much.

I like the fact that he has speed (late inning pinch runner).

He is a switch hitter (Dusty will not have to think too much - I hope).

Since Dusty likes the Left - Right - Left - Right thing, I hope he does not make Derrick bat Left handed against a left handed pitcher! ( )

I don't know about retiring his number but I will say that his bat was the most dangerous on the Big Red Machine and that's saying a lot. He was the best hitter I've ever seen in a Reds uniform albeit he didn't do it for a lot of years like his teammates that are in the Hall.

Derrick Robinson's minor league numbers are putrid. In his last two seasons he has 26 XBH in 971 at-bats. One every 37 ABs. But he is really, really fast. And sometimes that is all that really matters.
