Phillies, Jamie Moyer agree to two-year contract extension

Contract would keep Moyer around past his 50th Birthday.

Apparently the result of a run of stellar Grapefruit League appearances, the Philadelphia Phillies have come to terms with the 47 year old lefty on a two year, $14 million contract extension, which reportedly includes a third year player option at $9.5 million that could keep him in Philadelphia through 2013 and past his 50th birthday.

And here I thought he was on the mutual renewable deal like Tim Wakefield is with Boston?!?! Dang.

Isn't Jamie Moyer with another team this year?
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

No. Whether all this about an extension is an April Fool's joke or not, he is still with the Phillies and has (no joke) won the 5th starter spot over Kyle Kendrick due to his great spring.

Nope. He just won the 5th spot in Philly again, beating out Kendrick. Who probably muttered something about getting schooled by a grandpa...

To be honest, I don't know if this is a joke or not...

I haven't seen this reported by any legitimate news site so I tend to doubt its validity but it's worth noting that Moyer is 42 victories away from 300. If he does hang on somewhere until 50 he will warrant Hall of Fame consideration

Why? If Bert Blyleven can't make it how can Moyer even with 300 wins?

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

That has to be a joke. Philly would be insane to agree to that.

Most respondents to the post assume it is AFJ

Nobody clicks on the link to find out for sure? Read the comments if you're still wondering.

Okay, okay, I'll admit, I knew it was a joke from the outset.

Hope this doesn't get me banned like the fake Barry Larkin for Benny Agbayani trade from 2003...

Knew it had to be a joke, considering how awful he was last year.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

If you ask me Blyleven should be in regardless of his being under 300 wins and Moyer should not even if he does somehow stick around long enough for 300
