I shop at Wal-Mart whenever possible, the one near me is fairly nice and it's in a good area. I refuse to shop at small local grocers.

May I ask why? Personally I am going the opposite direction and trying to get most of my groceries from farmer's markets, though that may be a bit more difficult when I move to Evansville in a few weeks. But I do like small local grocers too. Walmart is just a bit too big for me and oddly enough, never seem to have what I want.
Once thing that's becoming a big topic of discussion is that it may be more beneficial to the environment to utilize "local" products rather than concentrating on whether they are necessarily "organic", although both would probably be best. With this in mind shopping at farmers markets is a good way to go IMO.

That's part of it, but to be honest, stuff just tastes better and in the end, that's what its all about. Vegetables at supermarkets are there because they ship well, not necessarily because they taste good. Have you read "How to Pick a Peach" by Russ Parsons? Its an interesting read, IMO.
Oh, back to the original topic of the thread, outside of grocery stuff, I tend to shop at Target or Costco(I love this place, though it isn't that much different than say Sam's from a consumer standpoint). Its been my experience that Target has shorter lines than Walmart.

I'd highly recommend Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" as a very interesting and highly enjoyable take on all this (and the vegetarian thing as well).
For about the last year, we've been trying to buy more local and more in-season foods with varying success. This darn thing called "life" keeps intruding.

I get physically ill whenever I get within a half mile of a Wal Mart. On the rare occasions in which I'm forced into one at the point of a gun by my wife, I usually curl up into a fetal position in the aisle and have to be wheeled out to the car.
