I had a layover in Jacksonville last month and I went up to Jekyll Island one afternoon. I kind of liked it there, but I don't have teenagers. Myrtle is probably better for young folk who might get bored easily.

My grandparents own a condo in N. Myrtle Beach.

My overall impression of the entire area is that it's too overdeveloped. Traffic was a nightmare the last time I was there in '00, and I can't imagine its gotten better since then.

If I had a choice (which I don't -- if I ever take a vacation, I'm going to have to mooch off family and stay in Myrtle), I'd much rather go to someplace like Duck or Corolla in NC.

You're right about that. In fact it has got worse. If you go out every night, you spend about half of your vacation sitting in traffic on Route 17. I can't believe they don't have some sort of bus or streetcar system that runs up and down that street...

My wife, sons and I stayed at Oak Island 3 or 4 years ago. We loved it.
