I know teams use it all the time.... And its there...

But this is put in front of a huge spot with the playoffs...

They SHOULD do it... Leake can pitch out of the pen in long relief (He should have been there over Simon anyway)

If he was, this wouldn't be an issue.

Firstly, why didn't Rolen go to second, with the gimpy Pence running?

Presumably because he was already at the bag.

Go to third? There's no one there, as the third baseman is fielding the ball.

MLB has to approve all substitutions during the playoffs. Even injury ones.

If the Reds wanted to DL a reliever right now and put Leake on the roster, it would likely not be allowed.

Thanks, I knew it couldn't be as simple as Simon has a sore shoulder type deal... That leaves the Reds with either Cueto to the DL or Latos on short rest.

So exactly how do they not allow us to DL Simon with a sore shoulder, if the Reds say he has a sore shoulder? HIPPA laws have to come into effect on that one. They can't ask to see the x-rays.

It's subjective. The club basically has to submit a standard form of diagnosis and a doctor must corroborate the injury. After that, it's up to the commissioner's office to approve it, but generally that's a formality unless they suspect foul play.

They need to ensure that teams aren't simply substituting because of need. DL'ing Simon to bring in a starter looks suspicious because of the Reds need for a starter now, instead of a reliever. They could refuse Leake coming in, and make the Reds activate a reliever.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but Fay said they felt that Cueto would likely miss the next series (if it happens) and should be able to pitch again in a WS.

Oh I'm comprehending what you are saying.

Walk Arias to move Pence to 2nd so if a ground ball is hit to 3rd and he bobbles it, he can throw it to the uncovered bag to get the slow moving Pence at third. I wonder why Baker never thought of that?

On the last play, the count was 1-2 to Arias. Walk a guy with a 1-2 count in that spot? I wouldn't.

On a 1-2 count, of course not. But the passed ball happened on the first pitch to make it a 1-0 count. That is when it should have happened if it were going to happen.

No smarty, it gives you a chance to throw Pence out on a ball hit deep in the hole at SS, you might get him on a force play at third.
