note that the v-Liriano numbers below are career numbers, while the general vLHP numbers are only for 2013

    What I'd like to see:
    Phillips 2B (.333 OBP v Liriano; .328 OBP v LHP)
    Votto 1B (.333 OBP v Liriano; .377 OBP v LHP)
    Mesoraco C (2-6, 2 2B, 3 BB v. Liriano; .321/.386/.487 v LHP)
    Ludwick LF (4-9 v Liriano; .269/.321/.462 v LHP)
    Heisey CF (2-3, 1 HR, 1 BB v Liriano; .259/.316/.494 v LHP)
    Frazier 3B (3-9, 2 HR v Liriano; .236/.311/.471 v LHP)
    Bruce RF (0-11 v Liriano; .246/.291/.443 v LHP)
    Cozart SS .200/.273/.500 v Liriano ; .245/.275/.411 v LHP)

This leaves Choo available to pinch hit and double-switch in, and leaves Hamilton to pinch run or pinch hit from his more effective left-hand side

    What I expect to see:
    CF Choo
    LF Ludwick
    1B Votto
    2B Phillips
    RF Bruce
    3B Frazier
    SS Cozart
    C Hanigan

No chance in hell Choo isn't in the lineup, although the data suggests it should be considered vs. Liriano. I don't trust any of the other guys to get the job done any better.
Rounding third and heading for home...

Re: Official Wild Card Pre-Game Thread

Any lineup that includes Chris Heisey is crazy. Especially if the other player is Choo. I don't care how horrible Choo is against left handers. I don't care because Heisey is mostly horrible against every pitcher. Once in awhile a blind squirrel finds a nut, but this is not once in awhile. Just one more reason why this is going to be a very stressful night.

Choo's 1-for-12 career vs Liriano, BUT only three Ks. That's stretching for something positive, but it's not as bad as I suspected. Maybe he can work his HBP magic again Tuesday.

    I like the Reds chances

4 Games sweeps do not happen that often

Not many playoff teams loose 6 games in a row

Liriano is 0-3 VS the Reds this season

Not many play-off teams get no hit in the post-season...

Not many play-off teams win the first two on the road only to lose a best of 5 by losing three in a row at home...
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

The Reds are now officially due for a win. Dusty had the team tank the last game to play the odds game.

I think the creator of the graphic is right in most matchups..

I think that the ss situation is pretty even and cozart started to get going the past month..

bp is on a steady decline and with the injury I think you could argue that they have the edge on 2nd base...

manager matchup goes to the pirates aswell and although Hamilton is a good weapon on the bench we donīt really have a good bench..

if brandon is out weīll see izturis play... and we donīt have guys who can hit on the bench... I donīt see that big of an edge on the bench for the reds outside of bh

Re: Official Wild Card Pre-Game Thread

I saw on Twitter that we can have any combination for the roster for the WC and then reset when we go to the NLDS. I think it is already speculated that we are only brining 2 SP, but what about the rest of the roster?

I did a quick assessment and got this:

    1. Cueto
    2. Latos
    3. Simon
    4. Chapman
    5. Marshall
    6. Hoover
    7. LeCure
    8. Parra
    9.Votto
    10. Phillips
    11. Cozart
    12. Frazier
    13. Hanigan
    14. Mesoraco
    15. Izturis
    16. Hanahan
    17. Bruce
    18. Choo
    19. Ludwick
    20. Paul
    21. Heisey
    22. Hamilton

That leaves 3 spots left. Who do you bring in those spots? More pitching or more hitting?

I would say Robinson, Corky, and mabye Ondrusek for RH pitching.

    Thoughts?
    2015 Attendance 2-1 (4/6, 4/7,4/24)
    2014 Attendance 1-3 (3/31, 4/12, 8/14)
    2013 Attendance: 6-0 (4/3, 4/16, 4/17, 8/3, 8/21, 9/7)

Robinson and Corky weren't on the 25 man roster on August 31st. Assuming Hamilton takes Masset's spot, I guess you could put one of them on for Broxton. That's about it, though.

No reason to bring Latos right? They already said they're HOPING he's available Thursday. I'd probably add Robinson as #23. Leake over Latos as the backup/emergency SP. If Duke is eligible, I think he'll be #24. Cingrani if available, Ondrusek if not as 25. Not sure thought if I have too many "exemptions" in there that weren't around on Aug 31.

Kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I am going to go over to my parents house to watch the game. Just too intense for me to have the kids running around, getting ready for bed, etc. my wife is rolling her eyes at me, but kind of accepted this about me long ago...

So, yeah, I'm 35 years old and going to go to my Mommy's house to watch a baseball game so no one will distract me

Generally speaking, in the eyes of the media and the casual/non-biased fan, are the Reds the underdog here?

Without question. Cueto is a total wild card, the Pirates are at home, Liriano owned the Reds in their most recent encounter, Reds offense is in a funk, Pirates just swept the Reds, Reds have lost five in a row, Pirates have won 5 of 6, etc.
This is the ol Left Hander rounding third and heading for home.

    so true it's sad.
there's nothing like bowling a 300 game! 13 now and retired.

Ricky henderson has a higher OBP than C. patterson and he's retired. C. Trent 6-14-2008
