ESPN has had a Sunday night opener now for at least a decade, and it has been since around 1993 or so that Cincy last played the "traditional" opener in terms of first pitch around the majors...

I think the only thing that applies right now is that Cincinnati always has a home opener, never an away game.

Wonder when they'll take that distinction away...

Only because the season was delayed.

At least there's no 3am opening series in Tokyo.

That was awful. I understood the intent to market the game, but geeez.

They tried to take the OD game to an away venue in the 30's and the Reds pitched a fit and had it rescheduled.

In 1966 they opened in Philly after the Mets series was rained out.

I think even longer than a decade some other teams have started their opening day games before Cincinnati. It seems like some time in the late 80's someone for Detroit(or maybe against Detroit) hit a HR on the first Major League pitch of the season. Their game started an hour or so earlier than the Reds.
