Patton, YES!
If you are forced (like by having a wife) to limit your war flicks- choose Patton above all else. I am embarrassed to have forgotten it.
This is such a great thread.

Oh, sorry
Wow, what a beauty! One summer when it was blistering hot and we had no AC, we took our kids on a Friday to the Emery to see The Greatest Show on Earth. Wow, to see that train wreck on such a huge screen. Another time, we took them to see Laurel & Hardy. They squacked at seeing black & white movies, but by about the eighth time Stan Laurel fell in a hole, they were laughing and understanding a running joke.
Apparently Jim Tarbell wants to find a way to reopen the Emery. See this web blog

Speaking of Cary Grant, An Affair To Remember is one of my favorite movies of all time.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!
Dead Man Walking: From the early to mid 1990s, with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon and based on a true story. No matter what stance on capital punishment is, it may change after seeing this movie. An often overlooked classic that will have merit for many years to come.
Has anyone said It's A Wonderful Life? Cheesy, yes, but required viewing for any classic agenda.
Primal Fear, with Edward Norton and Richard Gere. You won't see this ending coming. Easily one of the best movies of the last ten years.
The Breakfast Club, with the Brat Pack.
The Game, with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. Another ending you won't see coming.
Fight Club, with Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.
I guess some of these are too new to be considered "classics", but they will be someday, IMO.

I second Hud and my favorite film of all time Coolhand Luke. Maybe throw in Mad Max: The Road Warrior too.
