Jean Segura. Upgrade at short in the short term and replacement for Phillips in the long term and it would be a kick in the Brewers' nads.

Alex Gordan. The Royals haven't been smart since Bill James moved from Kansas City.

KC would be selling high definitely as Gordon is having a stellar season batting .346 with an .908 OPS. 6 HR's, 30 rbi, .384 OBP.

Wow. IN 65 at-bats against lefties he's hitting .431 with an OBP of .479 and an OPS of 1.140. Unreal. Against righties, 120 at-bats, .300 batting average, .781 OPS. Makes no sense for a lefty to be hitting that well against lefties and not quite as good against righties.

Not sure the Reds have anything that KC would be willing to take for Gordon.
Using the Latos deal as a trade model:

    Billy Hamilton
    Tony Cingrani
    Donald Lutz
    Henry Rodriguez

Probably something like that. Then again, I'm terrible at this kind of stuff.

If I could substitute Corcino for Cingrani, I'd do that deal.

Why would the Brewers even consider trading Segura?
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Who said anything about trading for him? Just acquire him.

Re: If you could acquire one player at the deadline, who would it be?

Out of the realistic options I would say: Aramis Ramirez

    Reds deal:
    Broxton
    Cingrani

    Brewers deal:
    Ramirez
10 million in cash to offset money

I know many won't deal Cingrani, but it's the only way Milwaukee kicks in money. I think they could use Broxton in their bullpen next year. If you look at what Broxton is making plus the 10 million you could afford Aramis.

    Contracts:

    Ramirez makes:
    10 million this year
    14 million in 2014
    16 million in 2015

    Broxton makes
    7 million in 2014
    9 million in 2015

If you can get the Brewers to kick in the extra 10 million you have your cleanup issue solved for a few years without much extra money.

Aramis gives you a legit #4 hitter.

    Choo
    Phillips
    Votto
    Aramis
    Bruce
    Ludwick
    Hanigan
    Cozart

    World Series.

If you're going for it. Go for it.

I'm 5'-7". I used to throw about 70 mph. Never could see how those guys throw 90.

I liked the idea of getting Stanton, but the players required to get him would be too much.

I have heard Bautista from Toronto thrown out there and he seems like a good option, especially at GABP.

    Right handed power hitter.
    Plays outfield.
Makes less than $15M this year
    Plays for last place team.

Segura's a pretty bad SS, not sure he fits in the pitching and defense mentality of the current Reds. I do like the idea of acquiring him as a LF and then a Phillips replacement down the road, however.
