I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was ok. I would give it a solid "B" grade. Nothing special IMHO though, it was a bit too cartoonish. My biggest beef with these Marvel movies is the over reliance on CGI. I felt the same about The Avengers. The last 30 minutes of that movie was like watching a saturday morning cartoon.

The cheesiness of the "friends" parts was making me squirm in my seat as well.
The Fifth Element was 10 times "cheesier" than Guardians (see: every scene with Chris Tucker, some of the cringe-y "love" dialogue in the final act, the "pure evil" plotline, etc.) -- and I'm saying that as someone who really likes The Fifth Element.

I have not seen Guardians yet but my favorite cameo has always had to do with Scotty

Lets give Guardians some time before we go putting it on the same mantle as The Fifth Element. I'll be really surprised if anything from Guardians has the kind of lasting imagery of The Fifth Element's characters...

    I am Groot.

I love the Fifth Element, but Let's not say things we are going to regret later on.

What's to regret? 5th Element is easily better than guardians. People comparing guardians to the original Star Wars trilogy make my head hurt.

I feel like some of these posts kind of sum up why marvel comic book movies are taking over

    "Boobs!!!!"

    "Explosions!!!"

    "Aliens getting beaten up!!!"

Spare me. The last great movie without boobs was? Zero Dark Thirty? Lord of the Flies? The last great Superhero movie without boobs? I am having a hard time thinking of even one.

Action movies tend to have explosions, without them, it would just be talking.

Movies where the aliens win? Those are fun to watch.

My point is not that good movies cannot have those things, my point is that it seems like that is all people want nowadays.

I am fine with movies like that in moderation, but at this point it is all we get.

Yeah, not the best example of either egregious sex appeal nor complete lack of sex appeal. Katie Holmes in the final scene of Batman Begins pokes in and says hi.
