Like Albert Brooks in "Defending Your Life" -- I feel like a "little brain" -- and evidently BossHog and GIK use around 50% of their brain. I have decided to just hang-out in the Past Lives Pavillion -- the travelling may be a bit more rocky, but you meet much more intersting people there.

I prefered the old system but I am hardly going to lose any sleep over this change.

If the only reason ORG members cant post in the Sun Deck is because certain ORG members bulldoze new members, then my thoughts are if the new members cant handle someone challenging their thoughts in a not so nice way, they really need to seek therapy. I mean this is a simple Message Board on the Internet and if some people are so insecure that they expect everyone to be nice to them at all times even on the internet, then they have much more serious issues to deal with than who Jerry Narron will be batting lead off.

In general I really enjoy the site and I also respect the fact that this is not my house so I dont make the rules. I have contributed money in the past and likely still will.

One thing for sure, this Reds Zone gathering you guys are planning in a few weeks will be awfully interesting!!!!!

No, that is not the only reason. It isn't even the primary reason for the decision.

The primary reason was to restore ORG to its original vision. It was under-utilized and no longer provided incentive as a goal for new posters because everyone simply posted in RL and everybody had access to the game thread. Judging by the response of nominations, I'd say ORG is finally the carrot it was originally intended to be but never was.
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

I may have given that impression. Sorry, guys, not my intention at all. I viewed the separation as a benefit to both forums. It was my own opinion.

I originally paid money to help keep Redszone alive..That got me into the ORG, a forum I read a lot of, but seldom posted to..

Seems I don't have posting abilities to the Big Show anymore, but like I said..I'd rather read than post..

Besides..the owners of this forum board put a lot of time and money into something that we all enjoy and for that reason they should have the right to run it any way they want to..

Once in a while I have a question or something to say..and I'll say it to the great fans of the SunDeck..But I'm more than happy to come here and read the thoughts and comments of all you other great and knowledgeable Reds fans..

    Re: Opinions on RZ changes

The rep system was atrocious and I'm glad to see it abolished. The smooshing and butt kissing to get rep points was nauseating. There were posts said to folks with over 1000 Rep points like "you are my hero" or "I think I have a man crush on you."

I think if we had to have a rep system it should have capped at like 300 pts.

A lot of the folks now out of ORG seem to miss the point of all these changes. The point was to make ORG a more elite gathering. The goal is not like that of a high school diploma, i.e. get everyone in there eventually. So don't base your complaint on "why can't everyone get in". Apparrently the powers that be have meant for it to be a more sparsely populated place than it was before.

And finally, if these changes ruin your day, much less your week, you really need to get a life. This is one of many, many messages boards available on the vast internet. You're still an avid Reds fan. You can still enjoy Reds baseball. But if your primary enjoyment of Reds baseball is internet chatting with people you'll likely never meet, you've got issues...

    Re: Opinions on RZ changes

I hardly ever post, many more people know more about baseball than me. I come on to learn more about the Reds. We can still read both forums, so it doesn't bother me one bit. I am just grateful that this forum exists so I can read (and sometimes post) intelligent views on the Reds (and other topics). I deal with a booster organization of about 150 families and know the headaches with dealing with that many individuals. I appreciate everything the mods etc do to make this site enjoyable and informative, no matter what they do they will be criticized.

It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

    Re: Opinions on RZ changes

I dislike the change on several levels.

    1. As several threads document, the Sundeck quality has diminished since the ORG can no longer post there.

    2. I also think the ORG quantity and quality has dropped since there are a lot of people (like myself) who lost ORG status.

    3. On a selfish level, I was very sad to lose my ORG designation. When I joined back in 2005, after lurking for a long time, I worked hard to post decent quality comments. It felt good to get positive rep points, and bad the one time I got negative rep. Last summer when I got over 200 points, I was frankly proud that I accomplished more rep points than I had number of posts. (I purposely avoided posting much game thread type chatter). I didn't post a large number of comments, but I still tried to keep the quality up. For these reasons, it didn't seem fair to be demoted back out of ORG almost a year later.

    4. There is now no way to get any feedback in Sundeck from ORG members. You can't tell if you are gaining or losing ground. At least with rep points, you could see how you were progressing toward ORG. Now you sit there and just wonder. This will seriously cut into people's motivation to post on Sundeck as well.

I completely agree that BossHog and GIK own the site, and have right to set the rules. They spend countless hours and dollars on this great site. I will continue to post, and would still like to get back into ORG.

Nonetheless, I still liked the previous system better. I have now read most of the various postings discussing their reasons for the changes. I understand to a certain degree.

It just seems to me that many of the complaints generated by the new system, and the problems with the old system, might have been better handled by creating a third class of membership, and making that class more restricted, while keeping the old set up without game threads. (I understand that those old game threads were very difficult to moderate.) Maybe the new class could still be created for the true old-timers, giving them the right to again post in Sundeck AND ORG. I don't know....just a thought.
