I could have picked multiple options. You only allow us to pick one, so I don't like the poll.

Re: What has been the biggest surprise for you this season

I voted "other"......It has been amazing that the Reds management has watched this team this season and done nothing to try to improve them. From the gaffes from Dusty, to the pitching failures, to the hitting failures...I just don't know what it is going to take to get them off their back sides and do something. They know the window of opportunity is short with several players...Votto, Phillips, etc. They sit there and say AAA is loaded with talent. Well, I don't see it. We have no pitching major league ready. We've already brought up most who are or were playing well, and we still have holes. I don't see any other choice other than to get some free agents or make trades.
If Management wants to wait until these young players mature, we will lose out on the players that are playing their best now. The one big thing about all these young players is they are unproven. They may all fall on their faces and do nothing. We need to help the proven players now.

That the Phils took all four in Cincy without having to "tailpipe" anyone this time.

Travis Wood and the Reds not playing small ball like last year is my biggest surprise. Stubbs not improving is right behind that.

The overall lackluster performance. After last year's promise, they really stagnated. I thought Bruce would really break out, Masset would surface as future closer, and it wouldn't take so long to seek an option to Gomes in LF. Most National pundits have refered to this team as, way under-achievers.

Re: What has been the biggest surprise for you this season

I don't buy this overall lackluster performance crap, when any team loses they look lackluster

    This season was lost because

No production from LF (Gomes over HI-C most of the season killed them)
    last season LF .275 95R 95RBI this season LF .221 67R 62RBI

    No production from 3rd
    last season 3rd .284 83R 100RBI this season 3rd .238 68R 72RBI

Arroyo's off season (because they did not DL him to start the season)
    3.88 ERA VS 5.00 ERA

team ERA is only up 0.10 (Arroyo)
Runs are down (LF & 3rd)

fix those 3 issues and you have a contender

He is on pace for 34HR and 102 RBI, what is a break out to you?

I don't think Wood got a fair shake, when he was sent down he was leading the team in quality starts

10 QS in 16 starts he was on pace for 22 QS, last season the league leader has 25 QS

I'm not too surprised with the way this season has gone.. I guess if I had to pick on thing it would be lack of a winning streak/overall inconsistency. If the Reds had just one red-hot streak this season would have been a bit different. Starters, bullpen, and offense have been good -- but all at separate times. And we have lost too many 1 run ball games.

How long it takes the organization to realize that they have talent in their minor league system, that can and will produce!( if given playing time when they are called up.) It also amazes me that Mesoraco in his only at bat pounded one off the bottom of the left field wall and yet we are out of the running for the division and still sit him on the bench.
