I wouldn't be terribly opposed to bringing in J.D. Drew for a look if it was on a minor league deal or a low-dollar major league contract.

Here is a list of most of the SP with the current Reds SP. The list is for the past three seasons.

I still like Edwin Jackson but I think he'll be expensive.

If we could get rid of Arroyo and sign Oswalt, I think Walt could mail it in for the remainder of the offseason. I realize this is unlikely.

That would explain why you thought we should sign Rich Harden!

High upside guy who would need to accept a swingman role who could be lightning in a bottle. They can't afford anymore good starters. Besides, he seems to be the model that Homer Bailey is following in his career. May as well have them both.

    Major League Deal
    JD Drew
    Ryan Theriot
    Kerry Wood

    Minor League Deal
    Bill Hall
    Aaron Cook
    Brandon Webb

JD Drew adds offense to this team. He can play a decent LF and won't be getting the big payday from elsewhere.

I hated seeing Ryan Theriot come to the plate against the Reds. He was a pest. Can back up SS and 2b. Would be a nice role player to have on the team.

Sign Kerry Wood, plug him in the pen with Marshall and you can go closer by committee until the trade deadline.

Sign Bill Hall to a minor league deal, have him stay in the minors all year long so he doesn't kill the Reds.

Aaron Cook could give the team depth if a starter goes down and he is a hometown guy.

Bradon Webb is pretty much done but ink him to a minor league contract just in case.....

Kerry Wood is staying in Chicago or retiring.

I'd love to have him, though.

    Re: Remaining unsigned free agents

I'd want Harden on a Spring Training invite until he proved himself fit. If he makes it out of ST on the big club, I'd have a Major Legue deal with guaranteed money agreed too. If he doesn't make it, I'd let him opt out of going to L'Ville if he wished (which is probably his right anyway, now that I think of it).

    Re: Remaining unsigned free agents

Reds should sign Ryan Madson. Nobody is running after this guy, Reds should be able to get him for three years, less than ten million per year. Madson, Latos, and Marshall transform this staff.

If Reds plan to go with four true outfielders, as I expect, they need a starter to go with Stubbs and Bruce. Don't love anyone on list. Crisp would be adequate in my book, I know others disagree. Others, like Andruw Jones, are interesting but at this point are likely backups. A trade is probably necessary unless they get Crisp.

Reds need a good backup middle infielder, particularly with a rookie SS. Don't see him on this list. I think they will need a trade or just go with Janish.

I doubt Reds will sign a starter like Edwin Jackson. But they could go for somebody like Harden who provide insurance and meanwhile help in pen or AAA.

Reds could also sign a FA catcher from this group, to hang out in Louisville.

    Re: Remaining unsigned free agents

    - I wouldn't spend a boatload on him, but I've always liked Chad Qualls and wouldn't mind seeing him signed. His career 2.19 GO/AO would play well in the GAB. If the prognosis is good on Aardsma's return from surgery I'd like him as an alternative to another year of Coco.

    - I'm really warming to Wei-Yin Chen (lefty who can throw mid-90's, but not sure how warm he would be to the midwest. Again, it would depend on the money.

    - Roy Oswalt, Edwin Jackson and Joe Saunders with Birg League deals - Brad Penny - maybe - if Bronson could be move - so probably not. Aaron Cook and Paul Maholm on minor league deals with a contract at the end of ST if they make it. Is there any hope at all of turning Kasmir around - even as an MR.

    - I wouldn't scream if they signed Thierot or Cedeno, but I'd probably just as soon stick with Janish or Valaika for less $$$$.

    - I would have some varying degrees of interest in Yeonis Cespedes, Andruw Jones, Connor Jackson, Luke Scott, Coco Crisp, JD Drew, Cody Ross, Ryan Spillbouroughs, Bill Hall, Eric Hinske and Brad Hawpe, but only Cespedes and possibly Jones as fulltime starter - the rest? Only bench bats with occasionaly starts. As always, price would be a big factor in the level of my interest.

    - Betemit would interest me at the right price.

    - Navarro or Snider only if I needed a backup to free Hanigan for a deal (or there's a ST injury), but there isn't much likelihood of that.
