Dye signs 2 yr 22 Mil Extension

Jermaine Dye just signed a 2yr 22 Mil extension. Will this
do anything at all to possibly get Dunn to sign an extension
    with the Reds? Thoughts?

Byrnes gets 10, Dye gets 11, what should Dunn get?

    13? 15?

Apparently he's worth about 5 million and not a penny more.

His value is in the 14-16 million range. He'll get paid either way.

I would think it would be more in the 13-15 million range.

His numbers compared to Dye and Byrnes are much better. . . someone will give him at least 15.

I would think the fact that potential free agent outfielders are being signed would put pressure on the Reds to pick up Dunn's option

According to Cot's Baseball Contracts the 2008 option year for Dunn is for a base of 13 million with award bonuses that could push it as high as 16 million. How easibly reachable those award bonuses are I have no idea. Two comparable (IMO) free agents this past winter got 6 yr/96 million and 8 yr/136 million deals respectively. Adam Dunn is at least as good as both those players IMO. Adam Dunn will be a year younger than both those players were when he hits the free agent market. It will be two seasons later than those respective deals were inked, and salaries generally tend to rise over time. If AD were to sign with the Reds for anything close to 5 yr/75 million, it would be a blessing. I think 6 yr/100 million would be a low-end figure.
