Ditto. OBM, GOYA, Redsof72 and of course Doug make the minor league board the best part of redszone IMO. Long time posters like JaxRed, Doc Scott and Jmcclain add a lot as well.

Usually, discussion of minor leaguers requires posters who are pretty knowledgable in general anyway, so there is no voting or rep system required to keep the standards up.

BTW - There are Lots and Lots of interesting names left. We could easily go to 50. (maybe more). But pitchers and catchers report in like 40 days.

We need to shorten the voting periods...

I really don't get the lack of love for Henry Rodriguez...

By Doug's accounts, he has not just good, but ELITE speed... He will play a middle infield position, and as a 19 year old, with 209 ab's between the GCL and Venezuelan Winter League he only struck out 25 times and hit .335... Seems like a kid that has a lot of upside, has an elite skill, and plays a position of scarcity would be held in a higher regard.

What I don't like about Rodriguez is his lack of power. I also would've liked to have seen him walk more this year. I love that he's a switch-hitting MI with speed, but it's hard for me to get excited about him until he can get a higher OPS or show that he can play great defense.

The lack of walks doesn't worry me too much because he puts the ball in play and has the speed to get on base... That's the style of ball that forces the defense to make mistakes that can turn into big plays... I still haven't been able to find anything about his D either good or bad...

He hasn't made it out of the GCL yet. He far and away outperformed most players his age at that level. As for the walks.... they don't matter as long as the strikeout rate isn't all that much higher, and in his case, its not.

He puts the ball in play, which is especially great for a speedy runner, but as he moves up, the fields will be in better shape, and the defenders will improve, and unless he makes adjustments--and I'm not saying he can't--I don't expect his BA-driven OBP to remain high.

It doesn't need to remain high. It just needs to be in the .330-.340 range to be good at a MI spot.

What about his power? If he's slugging at .350 and playing average or worse defense, a .335 OBP just isn't going to cut it. I agree that he's a kid to be excited about, but I'm not ready to consider him a top-30 prospect in the organization just yet.

How often do 19 year old's stop developing power? The odds aren't good that he is topped out in power. He had a .100 IsoP in the GCL this year. If he keeps that up its incredibly unlikely he is a .350 SLG guy given his high contact rate.
