    I meant to add that point in. Yes, it was a Jim Bowden draft moment (although Floyd probably would have been a better choice than some of his).

    We're going to pick Lewis and sign him before he goes to Ohio State and blows out his elbow and eventually makes his way into the Indians' rotation.

    Ironically, the 2001 draft is the only draft going back to 1995 with no players from it now representing the Reds or their farm system today.

    1996 = Barker
    1997 = Hairston, Jr.
    1998 = Hopper, Pettyjohn
    1999 = Harang, Phillips
    2000 = Encarnacion, Massett, Nix, Kennard
    2001 =
    2002 = Votto, Vazquez, Bankston
    2003 = Dickerson, Thompson, Cumberland
    2004 = Bailey, Tatum, Janish, Valliquette, Bray, Sutton, Henry

    2005-2008 = numerous

    *bold/red = drafted by the Reds

    Re: Re-do a draft - 2001

    Granted it's a crapshoot, but 1999, 2000, and 2001 were about as bad a three-year stretch of drafting as an organization can have.

    Top players:

    99 = Ben Broussard
    00 = Steve Smitherman, Dustin Mosely
    01 = David Shafer

    Re: Re-do a draft - 2001

    Yeah, Gomes is 2001. Richie Gardner was the only other one who might have been...but his career is over, I think.

    Also, Darnell McDonald was drafted in 1997.

    Great class, especially the top 15 or so. Top five may be the best top five of the past decade.
