Couple of weeks ago I was lampooned by several game thread participants when I lamented our loss against the Pirates in the 4th game of the 4 game series as being a big loss. "It's one out of 162 - stop talking, moron." Our bullpen yet again blew a lead. At that point, we were in 2nd, PIT in 3rd and STL was in 1st.
Skip to today. We're in 3rd. STL 2nd. PIT has taken off and has the best record in baseball.
Since that game...
PIT = 10-2.
CIN = 5-7.
Cite the schedule if you wish...but the Pirates had a west coast trip during that time...in which they swept the very Mariners who are taking us to school.
Sometimes there are big games...even though each one only counts for one win or one loss.
Mark my words. This is one of those games.

Despite the odd play at home, good at bats by Hannahan and Izturis.
I'm so sick of watching some of the regulars play, I'm happy to see these subs.
I recognize these guys aren't much offensively, but still it's a welcome change.
