So far not much to report offensively. He has really struggled but he did have a good game last night with 3 hits including his first home run and a double. I will keep these numbers updated throughout the year.

Here is the scouting report on Cozart. His main strength mentioned is his defensive skills. Though in the few times I have seen him this year I would agree he basically has average range at short.

    Focus Area Comments
Hitting Ability: Cozart is a front-foot hitter who inside-outs the ball.
Power: Cozart does not project to hit for power at the next level.
Running Speed: He is a below-average runner for a middle infielder.
Arm Strength: Cozart has plus arm strength, though he does throw from a slightly unorthodox lower arm angle.
Fielding: Cozart's best tools are his hands. He may have among the best hands in the draft class and catches everything hit his way.
Range: Cozart has average range now, but with below-average speed, it might decrease at the next level.
Baseball Instinct: Cozart has good instincts and that should help him defensively in anticipating to make up for lack of range in the future..
Physical Description: Cozart is a decent-sized middle infielder who should be able to stay there.
    Medical Update: Healthy.
Strengths: His hands will play at the next level.
Weaknesses: His hitting ability makes him profile as a No. 9-type hitter down the road. He doesn't have enough speed to be a plus, plus defensive shortstop
Summary: Cozart has perhaps the best set of hands in this year's draft class and shortstops who can catch the ball are often hard to find. His lack of speed may hurt his range as the game speeds up and there is a question as to how much he'll hit at the next level. Some see him as a shortstop who can hit in the two-hole, but he also may just be a utilityman who hits ninth.

Also the only other video I can find of Cozart a home run he hit in the 2006 College World Series: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5z19CocPa...elated&search=

Zach struggled as a hitter in college , it will never be his strong suit. Have you seen him in person? If so what are your personal impressions? Just curious , thanks.

I have seen him a few times with the Dragons. I think the scouting report on him is accurate. Fielding is definitely the strong part of his game. He is a solid fielder with a good arm. His range is the only question mark I have not seen him make really specatacular plays but he is a solid fielder. At the plate so far he is not been that impressive in the few times I saw him. He is not really going to hit for power much. He seems to be basically a singles hitter. Probably I would compare him offensively to someone like David Eckstein. If he makes it will be on his defensive skills.

    Re: Prospect Profile: Zach Cozart

I think Zach Cozart is a future Major Leaguer, and I even believe he'll have a long Major League career. However, unless your organization is very strong at every position, I don't like the idea of drafting utility-type players so early in the draft. Then again, in Cozart's case, it was probably better than drafting a high risk/reward guy because, well, you know the saying: A bird in the hand . . .
