Where should Votto play when he comes up?

It is possible he could play at 2 positions. He is a natural first baseman, and he could play there. It is also possible he could be placed in left field in case Dunn is traded. I am sure the Reds will be tempted to replace Dunn's salary with Votto's and place him in left. We could get prospects coming back in the Dunn trade, and Votto might have similar production. It would be an awful lot to ask of Votto to replace Adam Dunn's power and rbis, but it could definitely be an option if they get a good enough trade offer. He has played some LF at AAA, and I am sure the Reds are thinking about both options.

Keep him at first base. Put Freel in left, Hamilton in center, Griffey in right or some other combo like that. Try to trade Hatte away. I wouldn't put Votto in the outfield though.

Would anyone have any stats on his defense in AAA. I am sure if he is a better defensive outfielder than Dunn(not very hard), putting him in left will be awfully tempting.

He hasn't played as many games in left field as Dunn has so that's not really fair.

If Dunn is traded (I hope he's not), that's what I'd do. Maybe even platoon the great Norris Hopper out there with Ace Freely.

Like usual we are loaded in the outfield. Firstbase is where he should stay for 1. hes a firstbaseman and 2. Our current 1Bs are older

Number 1 - Anywhere that maximizes his plate appearances.
    Number 2 - First base.
Number 3 - All of the above.

Number 1- So should he be a catcher?

I personally would like to see him play first base, as it is his natural position. I only threw out left field because there is a considerable possibility Adam Dunn may be traded. He may have to be pressed into service in left field.

It all depends on who is traded. If Dunn and Hatteberg are traded, he might play a little first base and left field. (Not at the same time).

From what I hear, he's worse in left than Dunn. But he just recently began playing out there.

I'd prefer they keep him at first base, personally. Hatteberg and Conine are not long-term solutions for that position.
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.
