Great TV shows that hung on too long

In the spirit of the "Cancelled too soon" and the "Must watch" threads, I thought I'd start one with shows that should have been cancelled sooner than they were.

The obvious choice is the series that inspired the "Jump The Shark" website and that is Happy Days.

The West Wing, but only because NBC fired Sorkin.

As big a fan as I am, The Simpsons would have been better off leaving the air years ago.

Married...with Children as well. Around Season 8 it just became silly.

The show just wasn't the same without Barney Fife.

God yes. And then we got the execrable AfterMASH and Archie Bunker's Place.

I hate to say it but it's looking like The Simpsons has hung on too long. I don't really want it to go, but it needs some new writers.

NYPD Blue. Caruso - Jimmy Smitts was good, the seasons after that were kind of boring.

I still enjoyed it after that but good grief, did they have to kill off *everyone* Sipowicz got close to? It's no wonder he drank.

    Buffy. Seasons 1-3 were awesome. 4 & 5 were good. then 6 & 7 were just awful.

Re: Great TV shows that hung on too long

Is there a difference between a show that has gone bad because
    1) the writing/acting/characters got worse
    2) has taken it's original premise as far as it can go

Floyd, Howard and Goober were no Barney and Gomer.
