The final three games aren't a sprint but rather a marathon.
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner

    Until tomorrow.
Beating a tough lefty in Liriano, in Pittsburgh, will be a very tall order for this particular Reds' team.

Another thing that gets me. You're down by 3 runs. The guy ahead of you gets on, and you take a big swing at a first pitch that almost hits the dirt.

Your run doesn't mean anything. In that spot your job is to get on any way possible. If you take a big hack at a first pitch it needs to be the perfect pitch to hit.

It's just terrible baseball IQ, something this team has been guilty of all year. Phillips is probably the main culprit, but it's been up and down the team both at the plate, on the bases and in the field. Something needs to change. I honestly think this team doesn't need a players manager. They need a Buck Showalter type of disciplinarian at the top.

I know it won't happen, but if this team loses on Tuesday I'd love to see a change in manager and overall leadership. I'm sick of a players manager and the pandering that goes with it.

1 hit after the 4th inning. It's like they just quit after the Pirates got the lead.

Yes that was a very impressive infield single. I thought for a second it was leaving the yard. - texasdave 10/13/12

If you would have told me in April that the Reds would take third, win 90 games, end the season on a 5 game losing streak against the Pirates and Mets, and win the World Series, I would have been ecstatic. However, actually living it feels underwhelming and unsatisfying. Anyone else?

If they somehow win the world series I would still be very very very happy. Ecstatic? Yes.

I suppose anything is possible. And in actuality if this team could get into a 7 game series and throw Cueto, Latos, Bailey, Arroyo, Cueto, Latos, Bailey I think they would have a good shot against anybody. As their strength is their pitching depth, and a 7 game series would highlight that strength.

Problem is my gut tells me they are golfing starting Wednesday until they hit Goodyear.

The post season is a crap shoot and anything can happen. But we haven't been playing up to our capabilities since May. Its time for a change.
