Should Votto bat 3rd in the postseason?

Votto himself said he won't be the same until next year. The power simply has not been there since his return. Maybe it'll reappear in the coming weeks, but it's a longshot it seems. I still like Votto in the lineup, but should he batting 3rd come October?

If not, who should it be? Phillips? Frazier? Bruce?

Yes Votto should bat 3rd. He is the best hitter we have.

He should defeintely bat third. He's still getting on base at a phenominal clip, above .500 since he got back.

And there is zero chance Dusty doesn't bat him third.

Since he gets on base almost half the time, I'm gonna go with, "yes".

If not, he should bat 2nd.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

See, this is what I was thinking. Bat him 2nd and put maybe Phillips 3rd or even Frazier.

I've been saying Votto should bat second all season long. He's perfect for it and it gets him some extra AB's over the course of the season.

And FOP is right, with the way Votto's power has disappeared, it makes even more sense now. Maybe even bat him leadoff.

Frazier won't likely be in the everyday post season line up.

About as likely there will be a change as Gregorious making the playoff roster.

The title of the thread is "Should Votto bat 3rd in the postseason", not "Will Votto bat 3rd in the postseason".

I too have been advocating that Votto should have been batting 2nd all along. Now that his knee is sapping his power it is even more logical to take maximum advantage of his stellar OBP by moving him to 1st or 2nd in the batting order.

I think second would be Votto's optimal spot in the lineup, but I won't cry over third. Even at his diminished effectiveness he is by far the club's best hitter.

Whatever. It is a frivolous question.

Re: Should Votto bat 3rd in the postseason?

I saw the look on Frazier's face when he was wondering why Votto was not trying to go home after he got caught in the rundown..... like, are you not going to run?

The answer is no. He is not going to try and do something stupid. What this has to do with the actual thread is am mystery to me but I thought I would add that in.
