    Ryan Hanigan Activated

And in the starting lineup tonight against Milwaukee. Corky Miller was designated for assignment to make room on the 25 man roster.
This is the ol Left Hander rounding third and heading for home.

Yes, Hanigan just showed his value to the org. after having to endure several games of Corky.

What is interesting is the DFA for Corky. Unless there is something requiring it in the CBA due to his service time, the Reds could have just sent Corky to AAA without clearing him off of the 40 man as Hanigan was only on the 15 day DL. The DFA takes the Reds down to 39 on the 40 man.

Does service time continue to accrue when a DFA is pending?

Corky ran out of options ages ago, a DFA is the only way to send him down.

I would guess that Corky has been out of options for a long time.

Corky has been on a MLB 40 man and in the minors at least 11 different years (probably more). His options ran out about 10 years ago.

I just figured there was a different was to get him there and through waivers without a DFA.

Just sign him to be a coach in Pensacola and tutor Barnhart or Dayton for Blaine and Joe.

Not that I know of. The only way to send someone down to the minors from a MLB team is either through options or DFA. He will simply go right back on the 40 man once he clears waivers and is assigned to Louisville.

Love Corky, but this is great news. Healthy Hanigan makes this team a lot better.

Well once he clears waivers, I imagine they will keep him off the 40 man unless they need to bring him back up. Having an open 40 man spot could be helpful if they want to do a waiver claim and would eventually be needed when Ludwick returns.

    Couldn't he re-work his contract?
