Votto doesn't think it was a fun finish. He's right. Marshall is a good reliever who is pitching very poorly and has all season. He's to be watched. I do not think he has the mentality to be a closer. Also, I don't agree with Chapman as closer. He needs to be in the rotation. Either Logan or Jose should be the closer.

And moving to Aroldis to the closer role...we "know" this won't affect him and make him start the walks rolling in? We "know" that moving Sean to the 8th inning makes him "unhittable" again? No. We don't know these things. Sometimes guys miss their spots, sometimes they don't have their good stuff and sometimes the hitter simply beats you.

Aroldis needs rest. He can work multiple innings. I wouldn't use him to close.
As I just said in a thread I started, I like Jose as the closer. He seems to be able to pitch frequently and he can get the K.
I vote for Jose.

I like George's tie.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Marshall and Dusty were trending on Twitter as the narrowly avoided meltdown was ongoing.
16 outings. 15 innings. 21/3 k/bb ratio. 24/15 gb/fb ratio. 2 poor outings out of 16. 8 save opportunities, 7 converted.
And this is with him not pitching very well. Marshall will be fine.
The way I look at it is this...if we move Chapman into the closer role...it's going to be VERY difficult to move him OUT of the closer role. I want to see him start. As I'm sure most Reds fans do. Leaving him out of that role allows him to pitch the 7th & 8th, the 8th & 9th. If he's the "closer", we know how he'll be used...9th only, sometimes only PART of the 9th. He's never been good on going back to back days, and certainly not 3 days in a row. I know he's been virtually unhittable, but there ARE reasons to not put him in that role. Valid ones. And hardly "dumb" ones.
I bet he'd be fine. But I vote we stick with the guy who's had success instead of juggling guys and showing a vote of "no confidence" in Marshall. Giving other guys opportunities would be great, but I don't want to see a permanent switch. Going to a committee...fine. Demoting Sean...no.
I think Dusty handled today perfectly IMO. As he's done multiple times IIRC. When a guy hasn't had it, he's yanked him. He didn't do that as often with Cordero.
