    Peavy Available?

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/1...eavy-for-.html

There is a semi-rumor on mlbtraderumors that has Melky Cabrera and Phil Hughes being discussed for Jake Peavey....
Peavey has a very reasonable contract for the next 2 years.. couldn't we beat this offer?

The other thread is talking about Garza, this one about Peavy. I'll take Peavy:

    223 IP, 169 hits, 68 walks, 240 K's, 2.54 era, 1.06 WHIP.

Six total seasons in the majors, career era of 3.31 and a WHIP of 1.19. He turns 27 next May.

I'd trade Homer Bailey and Hamilton in a heartbeat for this guy if he is under contract for 2 more seasons.

I don't believe it, the padres are completely stupid if they even think about considering unloading peavy.

Definitly, which is why there is no way this rumor is accurate... you have to be retarded to not get more than that for Jake effing Peavy...

I don't believe the rumor, because the Yankees have already said they won't trade Phil Hughes. I do believe the Padres are willing to trade Jake Peavy.

Peavy has stuff that only video game pitchers normally have. I would take him over any youngster in the game not named Santana. I can't understand how Melky has ANY trade value...WAY overrated in my opinion. The Yanks have said their youngsters are untouchable though, so I wouldn't put much merit in the rumor...and I don't believe for a second that Peavy could be had at that price. It would take a lot more.

The Yankees said they wouldn't trade any of their young players for a position player. Which personally I think is wise.

    Re: Peavy Available?

I think the article could be read both ways. It does say they won't trade the big three for a position player, but it also says that when other teams call, those 3 players are unavailable to be traded.
