I don't know, and the Bats got two players from AA to take the spots. So maybe Smith got sent to AA

I'm not worried about him taking Smith's spot. After throwing 4 1/3 innings last night, he was going to be useless for probably at least three days, minimum. This gets us another arm that can eat a good chunk of innings. Smith can be called back up when rosters expand if we want and if we want him for the playoffs (and I'm not at all convinced we do), he can still be added because of the pitchers we have on the DL.
I thought they might suck it up and finally call up Chapman, but they're sticking with September first.
This call-up is about a long guy, and Chapman hasn't thrown more than an inning in quite a while. Only 1 more week until Aroldis hits the Queen City.

2 years ago, most thought he was a phone call away, then the bad hand last year really set him back. Good call up IMO, of the guys at Louisville, I'd think him one of the more ready to hit at the MLB level. And, he's on the 40-man, so it was an easy choice. Good luck Chris, show you got it!
