I have always been a Sixers fan since the mid 1970's. Dr J, George McGinnis, Loyd (World) Free, Daryl Dawkins.....

It is safe to say, this year we are underdogs.

It's so close this year that its too hard to guess. I love the matchups. Its hard to not pick Boston/LA, but I have a hard time betting against Shaq... I am definitely pulling for the Suns and I could really see them winning it. BUT I'm not sure the Spurs can lose in the 1st Round... it's just too hard to pick

    Re: NBA Playoff thread

The NBA Playoffs are my favorite six months of the year, and I feel sorry for the five teams that don't make it.

Okay, I'm being a bit extreme for an attempt at humor. Actually, I'm happy to see the Celtics and Lakers back at the top. I hope they make the finals, for old time's sake. The NBA has never been the same for me since the Celtics and Lakers stopped meeting in The Finals.

I don't feel like making all predictions BUT

    UTAH will win it all.

    Upset picks:

    Toronto over Orlando
    Denver over LAL

Only going to worry about the first round right now. LA has too much for Denver. Houston has home court but Alston is missing the first two games. Phoenix and New Orleans could go either way. No surprises in the East.

Love to see Utah win it all. But man did they look atrocious last night. Not a good way to go into the playoffs!

Yeah they looked like they didn't care at all. That game was over after about 6 minutes.

    Re: NBA Playoff thread

The Cavs Wiz and Pistons Sixers are the only series that intrigue me. The Cavs and Wiz don't like eachother at all. Lots of trash talk and LeBron and DeShawn Stevenson have a personal beef with eachother.

I like the Sixers team a lot as an underdog, but I don't think they can pull off a series win against Detroit. I think they will be able to steal a couple away from them though.

Every matchup out west should be great.

    Re: NBA Playoff thread

Article in the local paper said that Tim Duncan has intentionally been in cruise control during most of the regular season. He's also said to have lost interest in running up big numbers or being the regular-season MVP. I believe the article also said the expression on his face has seemed to say "Can we just get to the playoffs already?"

Last night vs. Utah seemed to be a great example of what the Spurs can do when they're in playoff mode. They'll need to stay in that zone against the Suns, who are their most disliked rival in the West. Even so, I think the Spurs can win it all again, provided they can stay healthy.

I think any of the top 6 teams in the West can win it. I do think the Spurs are the least likely at the moment because of their age. The playoff schedule is really going to take a toll on guys like Finley, Bowen and Ginobli. By the time they got to a series again Utah or LA they could have played 12-14 games. They will certainly be competive and if the bounces go their way (like last night) they are talented enough to do it, but that would be a concern of mine if I was a Spurs fan (which I'm not).

I really want to see a Phoenix-Boston final. I think that the Suns will have a very difficult time getting there though.

    Re: NBA Playoff thread

    Defense wins championships.

Detroit, Boston, and San Antonio are 1-3, allowing 90.x pts per game.

Phoenix is 25th in the league, giving up 105 ppg. The only teams worse defensively than Phoenix are Indiana (105.4 ppg), Seattle (106.3 ppg), Memphis (106.9 ppg), Denver (107.0 ppg) and Golden State (108.8 ppg). An 8 seed and 4 teams who didn't make the playoffs.

Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, and Josh Howard, all in the same half of the Western Conference Bracket. Sweet.
