    Star Trek: The Reboot

So, I decided to unleash my inner-nerd tonight and went to go see the new "Star Trek" movie.

    FAN - frigging - TASTIC.

I'll wait to start doing the spoiler thing until a later post, but it's a really well done flick that grips you right from the start (with one of the best opening sequences I've seen in a popcorn-flick in a while) and doesn't let go. JJ Abrams somehow manages to makes the universe his own (with some "big ones that clank" type decisions that I didn't see coming), while at the same time keeping it familiar for people like me who are fans of the original material.

I highly recommend the movie not only 'Trek fans, but anyone who enjoys big summer adventure/action flicks. I think a lot of people will walk away from this movie surprised at how much they enjoyed a Star Trek movie.

I'll definitely be seeing this one more than once.

When does this Star Trek take place? I take it's after Picard and well after Kirk?

It's of Kirk (and the original crew) as he begins his career in Starfleet. I'm definitely going to check it out this weekend...the reviews have, overall, been great.

Good. I've been debating on whether or not I was going to see this, as I'm just a casual fan.

The concept is executed better than it has any right to be. The opening 15 minute sequence on board the USS Kelvin has more emotion and story packed into it than the last two TNG movies combined.

The TOS-era characters just feel right without feeling like pale imitations, and the story FINALLY took some risks (which hasn't happened in Star Trek since DS9 went off the air).

    Re: Star Trek: The Reboot

I saw it last night, and I agree with CE with a few reservations. A friend of mine said essentially that there were all kinds of flaws in it, but he didn't care. I kind of agree with that assessment.

I don't think all of the "TOS-characters" nailed it, but they were good enough. And the actors seemed to grow into those characters as the story went on, so much so that even the body language and voices in the final scene "felt right."

Great movie? No. Fun movie? Definitely.

IMO, "Star Trek" is not meant to be "believed." Just enjoyed. And I had a good time at the movies last night. I also left the theatre thinking they might be able to pull off another one or two, and hoping that they'd give it a go.

How would this movie be for someone who has never seen a Star Trek movie? My girlfriend and dad are both Trekkies but other than watching an occasional episode with them and knowing some character names, I've never paid attention to it. Just wondering if this movie caters to the non-fan side as just a good movie.

The movie is pretty much a pure action/adventure flick -- I think as long as you don't walk into the the theater hating all things 'Trek, you should have a good time. If you have passing familiarity with the source material and are OK with some of the conceits of the genre, you should really enjoy yourself.

    I'm undoubtedly biased, though.

I'll be going this weekend. Loved the original series and the previews look good. Since I was swayed in not going to see the James Bond reboot I'm going to this with an open mind and judge for myself.

I'll try to give a non-spoiler account after viewing.

Why are you going to this movie? Does Daniel Craig have a cameo? :
