#Reds also signed Clay Hensley, a 33-year-old right-hander. Was 4-5, a 4.62 ERA in 60 games for Giants last year. Minor league deal.
Low-risk move here. I think I like him better than Ondrusek.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”
Clay Hensley could be Exhibit A of reliever volatility. Did he get hurt in 2011? He was pretty good in 2010, but has been pretty bad the last couple years. His awesome 2010 K rate seemingly came from nowhere.
I think the Marlins tried to make him a starter somewhere along the line. Worked about as well as it worked for Danny Graves.

Hensley signs with Reds: The Reds signed relief pitcher Clay Hensley to a minor league contract with a spring training invite, reports MLB.com Monday. Hensley made 60 appearances out of the bullpen with the Giants last season but did not pitch in the postseason.

Fantasy Analysis
The 33-year-old Hensley went 4-5 with a 4.62 ERA last year with 42 strikeouts over 50 2/3 innings. He recorded three saves and has 10 for his career. That said, he'll likely be used in middle relief with the Reds, if he makes the major league roster, and has low-end Fantasy value in all formats.
He's been mentioned as a guy the Reds had interest in more than once over the last few years. Not sure he has anything left, but they may have some faith in him.
Good to have experienced depth, even when it isn't particularly good. I'd rather not have to convert one of our AAA prospects to a middle reliever in the middle of the season and get stuck in that role forever.
Two trivia notes about Clay Hensley:
1) He was once suspended in the minors for steroid usage.
2) He gave up record-tying home run number 755 to Barry Bonds.

The good news is that now Marty & Thom not only have to deal with Ryan Hanigan and Jack Hannahan, but now there is a possibility of pronouncing Chris Heisey and Clay Hensley...

One sure fire way to know that spring training is around the corner is when there is a rash of minor-league with an invitation signings. Great way to add organizational depth to allow good progression of actual prospects throught he system without rushing them and once and a while someone contributes from the scrap heap.
