    July or August.

I like Leake, but its 3 starts. The logic that it is only 3 bad starts for Homer goes the same with 3 good starts for Leake.

That was a helluva game, even without the HR. 8K's

If Mike leake could K 8 batters a game, he'd be the pitcher some people think he is. Now, IMO he's more of a 6 inning 4K guy in reality (the Pirates offense is pretty K prone), but that was still a very good game he pitched.

C'mon...It's not like these are his first 3 starts. This post has been echoing the same sentiments for over a year now. Sure, he may fall off a bit in late Aug-Sept, but he is damn solid for the other 3/4 of the season.

If only we could platoon him in the second half with first half Leake.

That has to be considered. In four full seasons, his second half ERA is 4.65, over a run higher than his first half ERA.

Mat Latos is half a run better in the second half than the first half, and has always and a very bad month in either April or May. Should we be asking the same question about him?

I'd be glad to answer any question comparing Latos and Leake.

    Career xFIP:

    Mat Latos: 3.59
    Mike Leake 3.87

I like Latos going forward than Leake if they both are healthy, but the difference between the two isn't as big as I thought it was.

But comparisons aside, why is it problematic for a pitcher to end a season poorly, but not problematic for a pitcher to start the season poorly?

I think a great bellwether for someone's ability to evaluate pitchers be it statistically or via the eyes is their answer regarding whether Leake and Latos are roughly similar quality pitchers.

Evidence be damned. The pitcher who throws faster is better.

I don't think you've fashioned that strawman in the image of content within this thread.

Jojo, I'm not sure if anybody is saying Leake is as good as (or will be as good as moving forward) Homer or Latos or whoever. I think what they (and I) are saying is that he's produced very similar results thus far. Going forward, I'm sure everyone would take Latos or Homer over Leake (Healthy versions of course).

I get that you're joking -- but that's usually a good place to start.
