I'm too exhausted after that ninth inning. Tomorrow.

The BBTN guys were a riot talking about the game tonight. They were pretty complimentary about the Reds and mentioned that Manny hasn't done much lately. They also showed the lady getting doused with beer and then drinking a beer later on in her seat. Apparently the one guy behind the lady threw a peanut at one of his buddies at some point which we didn't see during the game, LOL

    Lol Kc61.

I'd just like to see us have more than only Cordero as a possible reliever to finish games. WHY does it HAVE to be only Cordero? (yes, I kow why )

Like WVRedsFan said, a healthy Rolen helps.

Herrera didn't pitch yesterday, right? I still think I would have brought him in to face at least a batter or two before bringing in Cordero or Masset who both pitched a lot on the road. A win is a win but hopefully we don't need Coco tomorrow.

Nice interview with Homer after the game.

He really hasn't. He's been solid, but completely unspectacular since getting back. Kemp and Ethier have been the only ones consistently hitting lately.

If I'm a Dodger fan I'm pretty worried about Manny. He needs to kick it into gear for the Dodgers to be a factor in the NL again. He's not nearly what he was last year or early this year in a Dodger uni

All the talk about trading Cordero. I wouldn't mind trading him, but after trading Roenicke, Stewart, and Manuel, I wouldn't right now. I would like a bullpen next year of...

    Herrera
    Owings(FA pickup as starter, Cueto-FA-Arroyo-Harang-Bailey)
    Fisher
    Rhodes
    Masset
    Cordero

Last spot goes to the winner of the ST battle of Burton-Bray-Ondrusek-Del Rosario-Ramirez.

When Volquez comes back, one of the starters could come to the pen or be traded. I know people thing Owings bat would be nullified, but I think he could PH in the 9 spot then pitch the next inning, or pitch multiple innings because he doesn't have to be taken out for a PH.

Isn't Burton arb eligible? which means I'd guess that if he's at spring training he'll be one of the 7.

I too think it was a blown call

Rule 6.05 (f) states that a batter is out if:

"he attempts to hit a 3rd strike and the ball touches him"

Rule 6.08 (b) further says that

"when a batter is touched by a pitched ball which does not entitle him to 1st base, the ball is dead and no runner may advance"

    http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/y20...the_batter.pdf

I am amazed that no one on the Reds argued the call nor did either Reds announcing team, TV or radio. Had the Reds lost the game it would have been interesting to see if Dusty had elected to protest to the league office. I think he'd have had a case.

A catcher can't be expected to catch a 3rd strike that hits a batter. It was an obvious call that I'm shocked was missed. The way the ball shot out of there, I'd say there was no question that it hit the batter.

Good for RZ for picking up on this...

I noticed you left Lehr out. I assume he goes back to AAA? The jury's out of him of course, but I think he has some worth. Maybe as a throw in when we make a trade?

I think he starts in AAA, he's a great guy to have around. Injuries will happen, and he will be up. But he is a guy who actually helps the younger guy. I think a majority of Bailey's maturation can be contributed to him. If he shows he doesn't have it, I would have no problem firing Dick Pole on the spot and seeing what Lehr can do, whether it be MLB pitching coach or AAA with Power coming up.

I see what you mean. My only problem is I see more to like with Lehr than with Owings. In fact, I can't see where Owings will ever be more than 5th starter fodder. His bat has cooled off considerably too. Not that that matters anyway. I think he's a guy who should be around (Lehr) in some capacity and maybe the start in AAA and then the promotion when needed is the way to go, I don't know.

For all of the talk about youth here, you still need some guys who know how to do things and have been there. I consider Rolen one of those as well as Lehr and others. I chuckle a little when the folks talk about the potential of all these kids, but they still need an example. I was 23 once--I remember.

Yeah, maybe he gets the job done more often than not, but it's very seldom pretty. He doesn't just go out there and put the other team away very often. And to me, that's what a good closer does.

I agree with you TB. I said the same thing a few days ago and was told that I complain too much.

    I've gotten that too. lol

Most people on here know that I'm not thrilled with Cordero and let me know they think I'm nuts because "he has such a great save record". Well, that doesn't make him great any more than a high batting average makes a position player great.

Really? Various people argue his save record to you? I would say Cordero is good because he has rarely left a game he has come into with a lead and left without that lead, esp. if he is not inheriting someone else's mess. It may not be pretty with his nibbling tendencies with two strikes that have his walk rate too high, but he is holding leads, all but a few times in many, many chances this year. Isn't that a reliever's job?
